Wow. Im surprised this is going on so early. Besides Wesley, anyway. Its especially hard for me to picture Swift gone so soon, so I feel kinda the same way you guys that think he is not going anywhere do. But if, as Doc said, they have already talked with one team about moving him, he just may be gone soon. I dont presume to know what are the best moves for this team, but Im damn interested to see how all this shakes out.
the comment about shipping someone to atlanta is not literal IMO. probably just frustration. those who doubt that stro is being shopped need to re-read Doc's post. he said that they have already talked to one team about trading stro. this doesn't mean that he will be traded next week. they could be having talks for a move at the deadline. who knows? the only tihng about this that is for sure is they ARE ACTUALLY shopping him. of course wesley's ending contract is being shopped, but who will take it? he will be the first gone because as soon as someone is willing to take him we will bite. alston will get some time to show himself on the court, unless he helps get a trade done with stro or wesley. that's what i got from it. Doc, do you wanna tell me if i'm at least close?
^ Agreed. The Rockets don't have a lot to offer. Wesley and Mooch are expiring contracts, but they arent' gonna fetch that much, Stro however could be nice trade bait with his reasonable contract. As for trading Stro, even though it is really early, he has been unimpressive so far. I think the Grizz fans were right when they talked about his game, amazing athlete but that's about it. He doesn't really "bang" down low and has a raw offensive game, also seems to be a 1/2 step behind on defense.
just a few trades i thought of off the top of my head: swift for watson. not the best situation for us but denver has been trying to get a bigman to replace nene and can't find any minutes for watson. we need a guard to can actually keep his man in front of him. this would mean that another trade would come to clear up the logjam this would cause in the backcourt. swift for duhon and allen. the bulls need an extra bigman. they were interested in swift over the summer. moving duhon would make room for gordon to start (gordon complained about not starting). again this would mean that another trade would come to clear up the guard glut this would create. allen or glover would have to be cut. swift and wesley for boozer. obvious for us. the jazz have been trying to get out of boozers contract. wesley's ending deal would help the cap situation out and swifts bargain deal makes the trade work. ---------- i'm not suggesting we do any of these. i just looked around the league for teams that might be interested in swift, then narrowed it down to teams that are interested in him who can make a trade work cap wise for a player we might be interested in.
I love to get our hands on boozer. the kid can rebound like a monster. but boozer plays no defense. thats the only knock.
there is nobody on that roster worth trading for, other then al harrington. other wise i would give up wesley for anything. wesley sucks.
A lot of you guys are evaluating our players simply based on their performance on the court... but you have to realize that the coaching staff, and the teammates, get to evaluate each other's games MUCH more in practice. Over the season, a team will probably spend 75% of their time "on the court" in practice, and only 25% in an actual game... so most of what GM's and coaches use to "judge" a player is based on what he does in practice (how he picks up the scheme, how he learns the plays, how he pays attention to game film), and how that transcends to the game. In all walks of life... you are only as good as the amount of time you spent to prepare. Practice is everything (despite what AI might say)... and thus we as fans have NO CLUE more than half the time, on whether or not a player is "making improvement", or "not being given a chance to show what he can do".
bulls aren't going to trade duhon. they'd be crazy to with salary he is on. rumour is al harrington is going to be offered the max by the bulls in the off-season.
If the Rockets make any moves it will be on or after December 15th, isn't that the date that teams with new players can make trades??
you gotta remember everyone has too faces The Public Face. . and the behind close doors face while in public JVG maybe gracious. . behind closed doors. . .who knows and this sounds like some .. behind the door convo Rocket River . . . .the lil General has a short leash
Can't be done tell Dec 15, but I'd like to trade Westly and Swift for Al Harrington and Zaza Pachulia. If the Rockets could work a way to get Salim Stoudamire which is who I wanted them to draft in the 2nd round then they should jump on it. That is a one sided trade favoring the Rockets though so why would the Hawks do it?
Nice stuff - well thought out! The only one that doesn't look reasonable to me is the last one, and that's only because Jerry Sloan is one of the only people that's less likely to put up with Swift than JVG. Swift wouldn't last one day with Sloan. Evan
I think it is time for the Rockets to cut JVG and give another coach a chance with this group of players. It seems to me that JVG system is so complicated that every year we have to be in trading mode to see if we land some player that fits his system. Aparently, very few fall in that category.
