I have been telling the "sunshine posters" for several weeks now that this team has some real problems, just not enough talent on the floor. For some of the older players, last year is looking more and more like a "one shot wonder." The new additions (except Head) have been more than disappointing. They had a chance to shine when TMac was out, they were horrible. But who picked these guys and made the deals? And if the Rocket's braintrust screwed up on these deals, why are they now going to become "player personnel" geniuses?
I strongly doubt Swift will be gone this soon, but I could see Alston and DW leaving town, although it will be rather difficult to get talent in return that can contribute and make our team a 'contender'. Sounds more like JVG expressing his frustration with the team/certain players more than anything else. Oh, and Les is going to pick up Joe Johnson's contract? HAHAHA! Good one If we pick up JJ's contract, then we will probably play a 6-man roster like the Suns did last season.
My first thought when reading Doc's post had nothing to do with any trades. My first thought was that JVG is starting to panic.
I second that, seems more like him venting rather than seriously contemplating trades. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if we make a trade or two, especially if we keep losing.
I love seeing new guys reading one of Doc's posts for the first time and being like wtf? It's like seeing a kid at his first Christmas. Thanks Doc.
I don't see us making any trades. As Secty. Rumsfeld says, "You go to war with the army you've got, not the army you want". We still need time to gell.
As long as they're injured they can't be traded: Rafer Alston Bob Sura Dion Glover Can be traded before Dec 15: Juwan Howard Stromile Swift David Wesley Moochie Norris Bob Sura Can't be traded before Dec 15: Rafer Alston Dikembe Mutombo Jon Barry Derek Anderson Luther Head Ryan Bowen Dion Glover Lonny Baxter
I don't think there is any way Alston gets traded at this point. For one thing his stock is probably ridiculously low since he's hurt, and add to that trading him leaves us with virtually no natural PG's. Head could easily handle the duties, but if we are going to let a guy that scores more play PG why the hell did we trade James in the first place? I'm not saying it was a bad deal, just that trading Alston would nullify it. I think Alston deserves a real shot before we try to deal him; I liked what I saw from him in a couple of preseason games (yes I know that sounds kind of stupid saying "preseason games"). I'd do Swift and Wesley for Harrington in a heartbeat. I've always liked Harrington, going back to when he was a young guy off the Indiana bench. I still think Swift should get time to get more comfortable on this team, but it's obvious he's never going to be a "heady" player. He's not a guy you want out there in the playoffs with the game on the line. As far as I'm concerned, our PF of the future is yet to be found. Oh, and no way Joe Johnson is going anywhere. He's not worth the max, and the Hawks were the only team stupid enough to give it to him.
i don't think it's a surprise that the demise of the team has been directly related to the demise of the WBPS. losing padgett was big, and i thought any backup pf would be worse than him and so far that's been true. sura being out has been big as we saw last year. and barry not seeming to get much time or production is hurting as well. none of the chemistry from last year is still here. alston for james, while possibly making sense from a contract perspective and maybe even from a full-time pg perspective, was an obvious downgrade in terms of fit for this team (well except to the james haters). somehow we've screwed up something pretty good from last season. hopefully it's not permanent (it better not be with yao and tmac on the team and in their primes) and we get some of it back and if trades make it happen like last year then so be it. swift's been worse than i thought he could be but maybe he'll adjust. alston has sucked. anderson has sucked. wesley has sucked. ironically, the only newcomer to not suck has been head. losing any of those 4 really wouldn't be bad and if they can be replaced by seeming nobodies who fit in well (the way barry, james, and wesley did last year) then lets do it. hopefully last year wasn't a fluke in terms of good moves.
I don't think that it's so much about actually trading with ATL, rather than threatening to ship him to the worst team then. Maybe this will give Alston the kick start he needs. Thanks for the new Doc.
Swift never got a chance. He has bee bad, but you got to give him more time. Thanks for the scoop though. What a great offseason, all gone to waste.
If anyone said this, i'll take it with a grain of salt. but doc is a bonafide insider, so i think what he says is true. i dont know about trading swift just yet, kid has the potential to be a 18 and 10 player. the real problem is the i'm the dictator attitude that JVG seems to have instilled in the squad. they are scared of him. it's showing on the floor.
Doc, you didnt hear anything about us getting KG for Moochie? coz most of the posters here hear those rumors first.
