WOW! That's a shock. I can't even believe they would waste time to report that. Deke has said all along he wants to be here.

Be glad I didn't open up a whole new thread for that juicy tidbit, which alot of our overzealous brethren Rox fans tend to do. :D

Hey, I thought it was kinda newsworthy that an agent tells his client go for less money.

Some possiblities on the "Pure Point Guard" in the 2 for 1 deal:

    Howard Eisley (SnT)
    Dan Dickau (SnT)
    Brevin Knight (SnT)
    Gary Payton (SnT)
    Earl Watson (SnT)
    Chris Duhon (SnT)
Kirk Hinrich ($2,413,320 He wouldn't be available, would he?)
    Carlos Arroyo ($4,000,000)
    TJ Ford ($2,303,040)
    Steve Blake (SnT)
    Sam Cassell ($6,100,000)
Jason Kidd ($16,440,000, very very unlikely that we would take him on)
    Mike Bibby ($11,500,000)

Outside of Payton and Cassell (Bibby a longshot, Kidd very unlikely), I can't see any of these guys that would command a salary high enough to cause us to have to trade 2 players. Ward ($1,870,000) and Baker ($3,881,250) are our cheapest expiring contracts, and they total up to $5,751,250, which means that we would have to take back at least $4,601,000 in salary, right? I don't see any of the guys in that list that we would sign for $4.6 mil in the first year.

They need to sign Deke before the Mavs do. I hope they aren't thinking now that we have Swift he can fill in in Deke's spot. Deke out played Yao last year in more than a few games and he was huge in the playoffs.

IMO, the Mavs would have to throw stupid money at Deke for him to consider...the thought of him backing up Dampier would be an insult to him, while here he relishes the opportunity to tutor Yao.

Carlos Arroyo wouldn't be bad. While the Horn fan inside me would love Ford, I'm not sure I'd want to take that chance. If we're going to go that route, I'd rather go 2-1 for a swingman then bring in Jay Williams. Kirk Heinrich is a pipe dream and I can't see Duhon signing a contract worth two of our expiring contracts. The rest don't excite me at all.

I could definitely see this happening if we tossed in a pick. Next year's draft is supposed to be weak so it might not be so bad. Ward and Moochie/Baker would work capwise. Kinda depends on Sam's health though.

I don't see any reason why Minnesota would do that. Why would they trade their more talented expiring contract for two expiring contracts that have to be near the same value? It'll have to be a team wanting to unload some salary.

    My vote is Mike Bibby.

To S&T for Eisley, Dickau, Knight, Watson, or Blake, in a 2 for 1 trade, that means at the the best case, they'd have to sign for something like $4 million per. Them guys ain't worth that. I would think there may be a deal on the table or being bantied about for Arroya. I don't know if I like him or not although he does bring the offense. TJ and Kirk don't make enough to be able to do a 2 for 1 trade.

The only 2 possibilities I see there are Arroya and Cassell. Possibly a James, Ward deal for Arroya?? Don't really see Van Gundy wanting that, trading out defense for a playmaker with no defense. Possibly Cassell coming in for a couple players....Ward, DWes???? Don't really see that one either.

I don't think a SnT is a possibility. Why would someone want to take on 2 of our expiring contracts in a SnT?

I think we may be looking at Eric Snow. Possibly Arroyo. Cassell is not likely because he is an expiring himself. Maybe Hudson or Fisher, but they are not exactly true point guards. Tinsley is also a definite possibility.

Tinsley would be a dream. What would it take?
