I work in IT so I'm around new technology all the time, and I still have those moments every few days where I'll think "Man, technology is really freaking amazing." It really is crazy how far we've come in the last 15 years.

That was part of what influenced my rant  .

Right here at the job I'm sitting at, I kept proposing more and more and more changes to our filing program for peak efficiency. Saved much time on work, but then thought no WONDER they have unions. I'm fine tuning myself and the whole department right out of a job into complete irrelevance lol.

A realistic zero sum economy is too far off for all that, so in the meantime I don't mind using my actual long forgotten regular handwriting now and then.

The internet is like a collective brain. Pretty soon we won't have to remember anything on our just look things up online. Just think things like Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia are really the first steps towards this:

Of course the implants and ship aren't going to be dark grey metal but white and neon Apple colors.

And yet, it still takes me a full iffing day to travel from Houston to the Middle East

We actually had supersonic passenger airliners in the 90's, and now we don't. So don't tell me about progress, we are regressing

Until we can teleport ourselves like in Star Trek I won't be impressed. Can you imagine how great that would be? I have to get up at 5:45 am to make it to work by 8 since I work over 100 miles away and take a train. If I could teleport more time with family, more sleep, less stress, less or no congestion, less pollution, etc. That's just for work. If I want to visit another country or just Grandma, no fuss just teleport. No more drunk driving, no more driving at all, no flights except for recreation. Then think of the use for transporting goods. From the mfg straight to the store. No need for 18 wheelers or container ships or fedex.

Now the funny thing is in theory eliminating all of these costs we should all work like 10 hours a week and be better off than we are now. In reality since I just eliminated probably 60% of jobs we'd have bigger problems than we have now!

Technology was supposed to make us more efficient so we could work shorter hours and make the same or more money. Instead it's the opposite, we've upgraded ourselves out of jobs and are now working more and more for less.

    What the hell happened?!

    I vote for skyways.

High ways in the sky would be expensive, but imagine how much time we would save. Entry/exit points for every one of them every 6 miles.

I will gladly pay more taxes if they started such a project.
