I think the people who somehow think that the Rockets' "team defense" exists without Shane Battier are deluded. He's the defensive glue of the team. If you move Battier, you better be getting a player of the caliber of Artest. Simple as that.

battier is a great defensive player no doubt about that.

but what was our defense like before he came? top 3 i believe and david wesley was playing that shane battier's role perfectly well. mobley did just fine before wesley.

we're not really deluded. it's just we have enough hustle guys to make ourselves a good defensive team. but we don't have enough guys with enough offensive skills to help our tmac and yao.

    I LOVE YOU SHANE!!

But seriously, Shane is a standstill jumpshooter and contributes nothing to the offense most of the time.

The bad thing about it is....he is the heart and soul of the team, not tmac, not yao, not rafer, but Shane. I would be heartbroken if we had to trade him :(

Damn it is a tough question but I'd say I would do that trade. Turkoglu showed last season he ia s perfect shooter and scorer too. I love this guy, really.

But on the other hand I don't wanna lose Battier's defense

Thanks Carl. I knew I had read that the other day but couldn't find it.

So basically the Chinese website read a Magic blog opinion and posted it as news? Is that what we are saying here?

    :)

As someone said, I think that is an even trade as far as talent/value, but fit doesn't necessarily work.

Hedo wouldn't be as effective with Tracy. And the Rockets already have two JJ Redick type players. (though one is taller and one is shorter).

As for the Magic and Shane/Chuck fitting in. I sort of feel like they fit alright with the Magic.

Playing Chuck a few minutes defensively against some of the other 4's (Garnett, Bosh, etc) allows Lewis to play some of his time at the 3 rather than the 4. Which is why I think he struggled at times this season. Shane could play the 2 or the 3 depending on who else was on the court and use Howard like he does Yao and post up around the arch.

Plus its a Van Gundy team so you know he wants the defense.

So I guess (and maybe this isn't a suprise) I see this as a better deal for Orlando.

I watched at least half of the magic games this year and would have to say that you almost have to consider this trade. Hedo offensively is so far superior to Battier it's not even funny, plus he is amazingly clutch. Hedo also brings ball handling and the mythical point forward to this team. He would also allow us to go small when Yao is out as he can play a little PF, and allows us to go big as he can play a little SG too. Hedo is a much more versatile player than Battier on offense (at least as far as usefulness goes) period. Defensively Hedo leaves much to be desired as he is average on his best nights, but i think if we want a better offense which is what I see the Rockets biggest failing right now to be then we might have to give up some of our defense.

I know that we like to say that Battier is the glue of our team, but from what I remember, this was kind of a down year for Battier (especially in all the stats that he usually excels in) and I am beginning to wonder if that's because he doesn't really fit what Adelman is trying to do. And maybe Battier could be starting his slide.

Hedo on the other hand played for Adelman and from what I remembered was pretty darn good in the Sacramento offense.

I also just don't know where we will find this mythical third scorer. I do not see anyone parting with a third scorer without us giving up Battier. and this is the first team other than maybe portland that I would see actually wanting to trade for Battier and giving us something of fair value in return. I do not think Bobby Jackson will create us another scoring option on his own, but if he can, then by all means keep Battier, but I hope we do not hold out too long and watch good deals pass by because we are clinging to a glue guy.

Anyways, I am not patient enough to wait until halfway through the season again.

    Addendum:

Now the jj for chuck hayes thing makes this a little less attractive as I do not see how jj would help us at all. Maybe if the magic through in their pick this would work for me. Or maybe if they gave us someone else instead like Evans.

    I would never do it.

JJ Redick is useless. Here's the comparison of him and Novak:
PPG RPG APG SPG BPG FG% FT% 3P% MPG
    Steve Novak 3.9 1.0 0.2 0.1 0.1 0.480 0.750 0.479 7.5
    JJ Redick 4.1 0.7 0.5 0.1 0.0 0.444 0.794 0.395 8.1

So basically this would be Turkoglu for Battier and Hayes. Sure, Turkoglu had a very good year, but is it worth it to sacrifice two of the top notch defenders for him?

I would do it. I think it would be a win-win for both sides. Houston would get the better player and Orlando would get 2 key guys to fit SVG's style. JJ is kind of a throw-in. Maybe he works out maybe he doesn't.

I'd kinda want their 1st rounder though, just cuz I'm greedy.

I don't believe that some people are actually thinking twice about this trade. Yes Battier is our best defender, but Turkoglu will be the third scorer we have been longing for, MIP, plus a good shooter at discounted price. Turkoglu is probably as just as or more athletic as Battier, and better offensively (who know what he could do in an Adelman system!).

But of course, IMO the most series point is that is Sina being serious because I swear it's the Basketball Tabloid of China.

Battier is too important a trade piece to give up for a guy who doesn't really address our most important need - point guard.

    No.

    No way.

Not for Hedo and Reddick. Giving away a dollar and getting back 90 cents...89 of which is Hedo.

Reddick will never be a good NBA player. You can quote me on that.

Most likely this rumor came from this forum. I remember a thread discussed this trade some days ago.

The OP has clarified that the reporter did say it's only what some Magic fans proposed and said. Now some of you guys talk like they tried to report it as a breaking news or something. How much more idiotic can this get? Honestly, I don't know whether you guys are just dumb, do not possess the ability to read, or just simply too lazy to read.
