plus tmac showed he is still an extremely good defender if he's forced into that role as seen in the jazz series. losing battier would put the onus on him primarily to play great perimeter defense. that would force tmac to maintain his intensity throughout the season.
Magic wouldn't do it and Battier would get exposed. Someone asked who would guard kobe? Who used to guard kobe before Shane got here. Also if tracy didn't have to do everything on offense, he would play better defense again. Anyone notice how much our defense has been since tracy has been here? That's not by accident
Pull The Trigger. I can see why they want to do this trade because Battier will increase Dwights numbers in rebounds. Lewis had some of his shots taking away from Hedo. J.J is a joke but atleast he is taller than Head.
You're answering your own question here... Why would McGrady need to be running the offense if we had Hedo and Ming on the court too? Turkoglu scored 20 ppg with 5apg last season. He could always "run the offense"? I love what Battier brings, but I don't see him being as effective in 3 years time when he's on 7mill per season. Maybe we could convince them to give us a first rounder to sweeten the deal?
magic would do it. they're in the east. they have enough offensive players in dwight, lewis, and jameer (or offensive-minded players). stan has repeatedly criticized the team for its lack of defensive focus. so they would want battier. us on the other hand has been begging for some offensive help and we'll get it with hedo. he's a batter version of miller so imagine him in this offense.
Our D is good cause of JVG. Tmac has never been that good of a defender. Once in a while he is good, but I think it is fair to say tmac is mediocre defender.
b/c only once in awhile he's asked to guard a good scorer. when you are on scrubs most of the time, you tend to not do much defensively. tmac was our best perimeter defender in the playoffs v. the jazz b/c he was asked to guard their perimeter scorers outside of deron and he did a great job. you're right. JVG instilled a defensive philosophy that will transcend any individual player. that's why losing battier is not that big of a deal.
No I wouldn't do this trade. JJ Redick sucks, however good looking you might think he might be is useless. so battier + hayes for hedo? no! hedo has one good year and now you trade 2 very good defenders for him? illogical. unless they offer someone better than jj redick I wouldn't do this trade. it is interesting though...... has this been reported any where on credible sites in english?
he is capable of being a good defender, he has the skills, he just doesn't distribute his energy into defense throughout the game. he is an offensive player primarily HOWEVER, he guards the other team's best player when it comes to crunch time.
I wouldn't do it. Turkoglu doesn't have a long enough track record to show he can perform at last year's level for another 3-4 years, and neither of those two is any good at defense. We'd be poking a gaping hole in our bucket just to cover up another one. I'm not against trading Battier entirely, but if we do it has GOT to be for a legitimate 3rd star.
Yeah, I'd do it - but only if I had a deal to sign Artest for the MLE locked up. I just feel like we'd end up regretting it - look at what happened to Memphis after they lost Shane.
we are not the memphis grizzlies, and shane is a great defender, one of the top 5, but not a franchise player which makes him tradeable. We all have fallen in love with Chuck Hayes and what he does but lets get serious, scola and landry hustle plus offense, which we desperetly need and hedo and possibly JJ would bring
I agree completely. Let's get real. Good offense beats good defense. So Battier makes the other team's SG/SF work hard for their buckets? That's great but they still get their points and on a lot of nights they actually do it quite easily with Battier on them. It's time for the Rockets to get some scorers. Shane's intangibles are great but only when they compliment a very talented team. Get the talent first and then worry about the intangibles.
I think Battier for Hedo is an even trade. The both can shoot the 3, it's just that one is better on offense, and the other is better on defense. Chuck Hayes for Redick, not so much. Luther Head for Redick makes sense. Considering Hayes actually contributes, and Redick does not, that's not an even trade. Luther and Redick are similar in that they both rely on 3-point shooting, both did not contribute last year, and both play the same style. Actually, Luther Head is better on defense than Redick, and he's got experience. Chuck Hayes is a former starter and defensive specialist. If you get rid of Battier, it would be nice to have Hayes on your bench.
I would do this trade...if we could only add Head + expirings in the mix and get that draft pick from them..we could sign a back up defensive stopper..ala Posey for the Celtics
