Galveston has been having multiple days with blue/light green waters recently.

what I loved more as a kid was my parents would drive down to this casino (can’t remember which one) and it had this massive play area where all the kids got dumped as the parents did their gambling

there was so much stuff to do in there and there’d be so many kids there…we’d get into so much sh*t…you’d go up in there knowing nobody and then end up with 10 different friends just having a blast in there

I haven't been to Galveston in probably a decade, as a kid it was awesome, now I don't want to fight the traffic to go to a mud pool and overpay for food that isn't all that great................stayed at the Galvez last time and that place is so overpriced. Hell, I just shoot down to Playa Del Carmen a few times a year to get my beach fix on, 2 hour flight and I can be on the beach before lunch

A lot of people don't realize how quick a flight is to Mexico and how relatively inexpensive it is to go there for a vacation. Lodging, activities and food are all much lower than vacationing in a place like Orlando or Vegas.

Back to Galveston... it's a quick drive for me from Friendswood, and I have a house there too so I can go any time. I'm still nominally plugged in to the local scene which I enjoy more than the beach, although I love driving down the Seawall or sitting on my porch smelling the salt air. Just a good vibe altogether, and local places are cheaper to eat at as well. I will say that the non-tourist-season bar scene has wilted compared to 20 years ago. Younger Millennials and Gen Z just don't drink like older Millennials and Gen X did when they were younger.
