Webber may have to make a tougher decision as a free agent than anyone ever has to before. He loves the team in SacTown, and it is on the rise...except he doesnt like the city much. He admires the Rockets backcourt and can see himself playing with them and also living in a big city. And he also wouldn't mind NY and playing with Spree. Man, glad I'm not going to have to make that decision. I believed Houston would be the top contender for him and I still do, so this is not a big surprise to me. I think how far the Kings go will really determine whether he leaves or not...and if he does decide to leave, I think Steve, Cat, and Rudy can do some recruiting and convince him Houston is the place for him. They got Mo here, and I'll bet they can get Chris if he decides to leave. ------------------ "Steve is good. Steve is real good." -- Cleveland's rookie point guard Andre Miller on Rocket rookie point Steve Francis
i think webber will come here, orlando has already wasted their cap space but new york might be the only obstacle in our way. ------------------ http://www.democrats.com
NY is not in the way. Peja is better than Glen Rice, whom you wouldn't want anyway w/ that contract. A. Houston, again, has a player option. He'll go to Sacramento only if he wants to go to Sacramento. Webber isn't going to New York just to send his friend Sprewell to Sacramento. That'd go over real well. There's noone else on the Knicks squad that Sacramento would want. If it's a sign & trade... Mo Taylor and change (picks, etc.) might handle the bill. The biggest thing in the way would seem to be the Grizzlies still having SAR and a third party team being able to satisfy the Grizzlies needs (Orlando most likely) in order to send SAR to SAC. Here's hoping that SAR ends up in Chicago. ------------------
Remeber Clutch talking about everyone would be partying in the street if this deal happened. Well I am thinking that that deal had CWebb coming here. We would probably trade Mo Taylor and Hakeem some how. Thats what the _1X meant I think that the 1X meant Moe's 1 year deal and something else. Maybe Calrlos Rogers. What am I rambling about. Ahhhhhhhhh I am so excited. Yipeeeeee. ------------------ "I move for no man." --"So be it."
X refers to playerX the underscore has long been used as the symbol for 'space', as in 'cap space' (I could totally be wrong and it could be a qty. field). IR = Cato. If I'm right, Cato was going to be traded for a player and cap space. I'm not sure where all of the exceptions are that would facilitate such a deal, but there are two teams off the bat that can do it: the Clippers and the Bulls. I'd rather it be the Clippers and our friend the Kandi man... but I'm not sure that's too terribly likely. But... you are dreaming if you think the Rockets are going to get Webber before July. 'Before July'... LOL, I guess I'm dreaming too. ------------------
I don't want to get too far ahead of myself here. Too late! Here goes. Nothing would happen until the All-Star Break is over anyway. Sacramento would at least like to have C-Webb being introduced as a Sacramento King. From there, who knows? The thing is, Webber would have to agree to a sign-and-trade; and if he was traded straight up with only this year remaining on his contract, he could get the hell out of Dodge and that team that traded for him would end up with nothing. So, yes, IF THE UNBELIEVABLE HAPPENS, Sacramento would want something decent in return. If we sent Cato to Chicago, maybe Fizer and Walt and Los to Sacramento...? No, Fizer had only one big game so far. Cato and Walt would just about equal Shareef (plus draft picks). Shareef to Sacramento. He wants to play power forward anyway. We might have to use our exception from Bryce Drew's trade. But does Vancouver want Cato? Steve, Cat, Shandon, C-Webb, Mo, Mooch, Bull, KT, Collier, Lanky. (Hakeem will be gone, anyway, probably.) Sacramento has said nothing about moving Webber but management must know what he's thinking. Perfect scenario (written by a real homer): "Trade me to Houston," says Chris, "and get something in return, because I'll leave after the season for Houston anyway; it's just fair warning." ------------------
I understand he hates living in Sacramento, but i still feel WCF will keep him there. Talking about using your head, would a Webber to the Knicks for Houston and Thomas, give the Knicks a title, they would still have NO LEGITIMATE centre and would be overloaded at the 4 spot and still have a crappy PG, but if the Knicks could sign Dikembe then that's a Different story, but as i see the Knicks only option is to do sign and trades for them both and that would really hit their depth. There is NO way the Kings trade him before the deadline, the better they play the more likely the chance the can keep him, there will be two options either he leaves via FA or leaves in the offseason through a sign and trade. And for Houston the more likely option is FA, cause what do we have that could entice the Kings. ------------------ CUT Tino These Heaves are just getting Ridiculous!
how r the Rocks gonna get Forte?? Isn't he like the 2nd best prospect this year behind Battier? ------------------
I just heard on ESPN or Fox Sports SW (I don't remember which), that people always talk about other places Webber will go but Houston is definately in the top 3 and don't be surprised at all if he ends up there. It's a happening city, got a great backcourt, and a great coach. ------------------ Charles Barkley on TBS on the "fat track" poll: "What? 47% said I'd gain more.....why those.....they better be glad this is a family show."
Smeg : A Sign-n-Trade is not out of the question. If Sactown becomes assured that Webber is bolting via free agency, they will co-operate on a sign-n-trade just so they get something. Detroit did it and got Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace, Toronto did it and got a first round pick, Sacaramento will do it if nothing else is left. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
When it comes down to NYC vs Houston you have NYC- Sprewell BIG City Houston- Western Conference big City Francis/Mobley Tomjanovich/Organization Better chance to win it all--IMO, youre going to have to beat the best of hte West to win anyway. My head AND my heart say Houston. Unfortunately, my GUT says NYC. ------------------
I think if Webber were going to stay, the ink would already be drying. He has to realize what a distraction this whole ordeal has become -- the longer it drags out, the more detrimental the effect on the squad. Realistically, the only place he could go this off-season is Houston. Its mentioned before and is worth mentioning again, Allen Houston has an opt-out after this season meaning he doesn't go to Sactown if he doesn't want to go to Sactown. Sacramento doesn't need Glen and NY really has nothing else to offer (They NEED Camby). Orlando has NOTHING to trade for him. Ditto LA. In sum, looks like we got a better than decent shot at Schizo, 'scuse me, Webber. That is, if he's stupid enough to leave Sactown. ------------------ Hey now, Hey now, don't Dream it's over...
Well, he is rumored to have told his real estate agent that the house is going back on the market. He is getting rather vocal about the small town market thing. He said he's living in a fish bowl. And he didn't even unload alot of moving boxes until his parents came out to live w/ him for a while. He's outta Sacramento. He's gone. Bye bye. You don't talk someone into getting comfortable w/ a city that doesn't speak to them in the first week, let alone three years. He liked D.C.. He liked Detroit. He liked Oakland. Geez, all of those areas sound closer to Houston than the megalopolises like LA or NY. C - Dream?/?/Murphy PF - Webber/Murphy SF - S. Anderson/rook/Langhi SG - Cuttino/Francis PG - Francis/Norris mmmm... playoffs. I don't even know who the hell the center is, but I know the team will still go a few or more. ------------------
Do you guys think Webber and Mo T can coexist? Granted, few teams these days seem to have a legitimate center, and that may very well be a function of changing times as well as a scarcity of big men, but I hardly see either player being happy playing Center on a long-term basis. This is a very silly point to debate at this stage, but certainly something everyone will have to consider if it gets to that point. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Relativist (edited February 06, 2001).]
The major item of information that really got me starting to feel the Rockets have a legit shot is Craig Sager's story a few weeks back on TNT. Essentially, Sager reported that Webber prefers the Western Conference and wants a city bigger than Sacramento. Factor in that Dallas would not appear a major option since Nelson and Webber dont get along and that puts the Rockets squarely in the hunt. The Kings arent just going to take a bunch of trash and bloated contracts in a sign and trade deal for Webber which I feel rules out a team like Phoenix. The key major player I felt would be New York b/c Allan Houston (they can re-sign and trade him like Portland did with Grant) and Marcus Camby is a significant package. However, Sager's report stated that Webber prefers to play in the Western Conference. The main drawing cards for the Rockets are excellent coaching staff and management that have a reputation for treating players well (despite Dream's whining), a large "urban", metrpolitan city (which attracted Shandon btw), the best backcourt in the NBA, cap room and family ties. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I believe the rumor central states that the Knicks want to make a move for Terrell Brandon. That would probably involve Allen Houston, but I don't know if Allen wants to go there. Suppose we'll see. Hopefully that's the Knicks' aim right now. They do already have plenty of power forwards. Would Houston stick around in Sacramento? Not that they need him. Orlando? Don't have the big contracts; that's a red herring. Phoenix? That could be a problem. I hope that doesn't happen. Webber likes the urban scene---as does Shandon; thank you for signing with us, Shandon---so Houston should be his preference. To actually trade for Webber now would be unlikely. It would cost us our picks, involve too many teams. If we could land Webber in the summer so that Sacramento loses him with no compensation...ah, yes, and grab Terrence Morris.... ------------------
According to NBATalk.com, Webber has a list of NY, Orlando, and the Rockets as his favorites heading into free agency (WOW, and I thought he may want to settle in SAC and try to win there). Webber in NY will be hard, being that they're over the cap. They could possibly re-sign Houston and package him in a sign-and-trade, but I don't know if that's enough for SAC. They already have Chrisite and Anderson. Other than that, they don't have many attractive options. The argument for Webber in Houston has already been stated. It's also interesting that he wants to stay in the WC, but the Rockets are the only WC team among his favorites. Orlando is interesting, but will they have enough $ to offer. If they have to renounce contracts to clear space, will that turn off Webber, being that an already thin Magic team will become thinner. True, the starting will be impressive, but that's usually not enough. Should be an interesting summer!! ------------------ Who's better: Kelvin Cato or Joe Barry Caroll? Take your time!
