Pretty silly reaction, tbh. You call two straight finals appearances, 17 consecutive playoff appearances, 17 consecutive 50+ win seasons, with 6 finals appearances, and 5 titles is unsustainable? Dafuq are you smokin
I don't think Dwight would let his agent do anything other than sign with the team that DWIGHT wanted to go to, Agents are guys who work for the players, not the other way around. True, maybe him losing this one will help him in the future as teams will feel he can be had. DD
DD, With all due respect- it does not matter. Winning breeds chemistry. Winning will heal any potential issues caused by Parsons absence. Winning games will also let you know your needs.
Exactly. I don't get why anyone keeps bringing this up. Why would Dwight care about how much his agent is going to get paid? Dwight should only be concerned about what is right for him, and it is his agent's job to look out for him.
All kinds od suspension of disbelief (aka derp) in his post 1) spurs never had big three of Duncan, ginobli and Parker 2) cp25 > Kawhi nba finals MVP 3) Kawhi was a first round #15 pick not a second round flier 4) cp25 now makes more than Kawhi 5) will the spurs extend Kawhi and pay him 90 or will they indeed let him become a rfa by not extending him this summer 6) is Kawhi the type of player who will sign a 3 year offer sheet at max with a devil like Cuban and leave his team mates, or will he help his team mates (like Duncan, Parker and ginobli have left money on table) and sign for less money to stay in San Antonio There are so many ways Kawhi is unlike parsons and none of them make parsons look good.
It's not sustainable in the sense it requires a lot, it requires luck first and foremost, it requires a coach with a great sense of direction, and it above all requires a team core to be healthy most of the time. Those components are hard to gather, making the system not sustainable.
As I recall, the Spurs moved up from the THIRD pick in the lottery to snag the top overall pick from the Celtics. Hell, Rick Pitino would still be in Boston if they had gotten Duncan! Boston drafted Chauncey Billups and Ron Mercer with the 3rd and 6th picks but jettisoned both players within two years. On another note: who cares where anyone was drafted.... once they hit the floor and show their capabilities head to head?
What he means is for some other club to be able to produce those same individual decisions and for all those players to rise to the occasion and remain consistent. How many teams HAVE duplicated San Antonio's record over the last couple of decades? None. Not even the darling Knicks, Lakers, Bulls or Celtics. Freakin' San Antonio. Never before have I wished that I had been born and raised in San Antonio instead of Houston!
Nt only is this comparison badly flawed as pointed out above. But unless you are saying Daryl should have screwed parsons and exercised the team option then you are also probably wrong. Are you saying the spurs will give Kawhi a max deal extension this summer? Because if not, then they will allow Kawhi to become a rfa next year. We will see what they do by oct 31 deadline, but most people expect the spurs to allow Kawhi to become a rfa next year. The spurs don't pay the 3rd best player on the team max deals. So what do you want? Do you want the rockets to be like the spurs or don't you. I wish parsons was more like Kawhi but he isn't, he doesn't have the talent and he surely does not have the character. I don't expect Kawhi to hang out with Cuban in night clubs and sign a stupid 3 year deal with poison pills. And if he did, I doubt the spurs would match it, even though Kawhi is a lot better player than parsons. If parsons was as good as Kawhi, we would have easily beat Portland.
Of course not, the Spurs are a championship team WITH Leaonard. The Rockets are a first round exit WITH Parsons. Not the same situation.
No, I'm listing the derp you have to believe that is false in order for dds post to make any sense. I'm saying dds post is nonsense because it is based on a foundation of nonsense lies.
Seems like we won't really be able to compare the two situations since Leonard already broke out while Parsons is hoping to.
This is ridiculous. Duncan, Parker, and Ginobili have been there for more than a decade. Leonard came in and had to assimilate. Parsons was here BEFORE Harden and Howard. You are the king of straw man, DD.
Parker was a 19 year old who was developed. Ginobli was an out of control turnover machine who was developed. Who on the Rockets can we actually say was developed here? DD
FYI- This thread doesn't need to be hijacked with the RIDICULOUS never-ending comparisons to the Spurs. NOBODY does what the Spurs do in the NBA. Expecting the Rockets to maneuver & operate like or close to their level of excellence is ignorant. That being said... what San Antonio has done & will continue to do with brilliance is to have the foresight to see what their players could develop into and master the art of extending their current players. The thing about the Spurs is they NEVER let their stars go into true free agency. Once Morey feels like he has a solid core together (which might be never), I think this is a key area for him to work on.
In his interview on 790 he said just that. He said you can pay them whatever they want at that point.
