but what if we didnt do it? would it really happen or would it not? because if it did then it would not ever happen because the rockets would probably not do it. but if it ever did happen it would be pretty crazy, but its still not too likely to happen because the rockets probably wouldnt do it because it would be very risky, but there is always a small chance that it could actually happen.

    Of the top 5 picks?

That's because the 5 have been established as the best players in the draft.

Why, out of EVERYONE in the US, do LeBron and Kobe constantly get "MVP" whispers and murmurs? It's been established that they are the best of the best.

No thanks. I'd rather root for a 50-some win team than a 20-some win team any day of the week.

If more than one guy panned out that would be a cap nightmare in 4 years when they get off their rookie contracts.

I read your post and for the most part I see your perspectves; but, how long can we stay pat and expect more than what we are? The team over-achieved last year (that came out of the GM's mouth). Let's take off the rocket goggles and take an honest look at our team for what it really is. When the GM only adds "assets" it is a sign. To me, an asset is something that is used to get more. I really don't see a major free-agent coming our way (with one's "goggles" off why would they?) the only other way to get an All Star is through the draft. Why not cash in and start over? Yao's window has shut (see-- Z and Walton I know they were never the same players post their injuries). My goal is not to be gloom and doom I THINK SIMPLY IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE. We should not build A TEAM around a sub six foot piont, a one sided sooting gaurd, a nonconsistent small forward, a thrirty year old power forward, or a glass footed center.

Somewhat my point, why build around a bunch of "assets" and washed up players that are kept on the payroll for a chinese fanbase. If you so badly want international publicity go after another foreign player in china if you want and trade draft picks and do something, something at all and get that new face of the franchise and start rebuilding. I think it's going to take more than yao ming at the center position and keven martin at the 2. Yao is no gasol and martin is no kobe and even then it's simply NOT ENOUGH!!! I say go get brand if you feel like it and obtain draft rights to evan turner or whoever, then go for wesley johnson some how and start from there. Find a big later in the draft (european if publicity is what you desire) and an american PG maybe even a native to houston and get even more hype there. But any combination of players we currently have is starting to make me look for other teams to watch (Thunder, Suns, Warriors) as it has been for the past few years for me. DO SOMETHING ALREADY the rockets yet my fav team were the second to most borring team to watch play last year behind the new jersey nets.

We were boring last year? Last year was the most fun team to watch in a long time, even if we didn't necessarily win.

    Two things:
    1. Yao is not washed up, by any stretch of the imagination.
    2. Your mentality, particularly with "DO SOMETHING ALREADY", is that of making a move for the sake of making a move aka. the Chris Wallace strategy. Sometimes it's the moves you don't make that turn out the best, and you need to watch and don't do anything completely stupid. Going all out for five rookies is basically throwing your long-term franchise health on one roll of the dice, a fundamentally unsound style of thinking.

Given that most, if not all, all of the top picks are owned by teams that are not "going young" so they can be good not next season, but a few years from now, how would you figure they'd surrender a top pick for older players?

There are GM's want to clean up their payrolls so they take the only "asset" they have (draft picks) to do it. Philly - Brand is not that bad of deal for the Rockets if we don't sign Scola back; IF and ONLY IF he comes with the 2nd pick. Yes, he will be Rocket for a long time (see Howard in the Tmac trade). It is the HOPE of the pick we are trading for - A fresh start for a new decade.
Golden State - I really don't understand why they would trade A. Randolpf and the 6th pick( if they are in than we should be too).
