Islam doesn't force women to wear the veil or the burqa, it's optional/recommended/preferred/something along those lines. So the women who do wear the veil are doing it by their own will. The headscarf on the other hand is a requirement.

And I just heard that they are trying to ban the face veil in Quebec, too. On a side note, Quebec is trying to separate from Canada and join France....

Further evidence of your anti-Muslim agenda. You're an incredible hypocrite.

    Some other interesting tidbits.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
A similar veil ban is in the works in neighboring Belgium.

France has already walked this road, banning Muslim headscarves, and other "ostentatious" religious symbols, from classrooms in 2004.

Critics of the garb say such dress is an affront to gender equality and undermines the nation's secular foundations by bringing religion into the streets. Others say the face-covering veil is the gateway to radical Islam.

C'mon man, we all know a person wearing a crucifix or a yamaka is just normal while a woman wearing a veil is the first step to a lawless society.

It's pretty clear they are concerned Muslims aren't integrating into society. That isn't a problem in the US, but it is over there.

There's a place in France where the Naked ladies dance

There's a hole in the wall where the men can see it all.

    I'm completely against face-covering.

    Also completely against banning it.

Fully support educating people on these things.

Although those who believe in the texts that support Niqab automatically believe in a whole bunch of hateful text in the same books, the way to go about holding these people accountable is not by unjustly taking away a loosely related freedom.

France may want most Muslims out. For Muslims who believe in Niqab, surely they have read the hadith which tells them God loves those who immigrate FOR Islam. If they believe niqab is for Islam, then it's time to travel. Don't whine or cause violence. If you believe in hadith, you have to consistently apply everything that's in those books. Even the Prophet left his hometown when he wasn't allowed to practice his religion. Since you grow your beard like the Prophet, you eat food like the Prophet, you dress like the Prophet, you sleep like the Prophet, etc.. surely, you must immigrate like the Prophet if you think this is religious persecution.

France is literally my least favorite country in the world, and I don't even have the American disdain for the French. (Dear all, this is not hate speech directed at French people, it is a general comment regarding my opinion of their policies. Do not take this to be a death/terror threat. Thank you.) lol

That's what she would have said, were she allowed to speak to a man to whom she was not married or related.

I doubt it's that clear. Or are the 1,900 women who wear veils somehow integral to the larger integration effort?

[rquoter]Although the Interior Ministry estimates there are only 1,900 women in France who cover their faces with veils, the planned law would be another defining moment for Islam here as the nation tries to bring its Muslim population - at least 5 million, the largest in western Europe - into the mainstream, even by force of law. [/rquoter]

Can a guy walk around with a niqab?

It's not a sign of oppression towards women. or anyone.
