Isn't there some Irony of stating one can't wear a headscarf and then talking about the free western lifestyle? A head scarf is a choice, just as drawing pictures of Muhammad is and just as a woman doing sado-masochistic p*rnography is. That is freedom. I think extreme muslims, christians, leftists and right wingers are all just fascists saying you can do anything as long as its in their direction.
Yes. The most free thing to do would be to allow those who choose to wear it, the freedom to do so. Also allow those who choose not to wear it the freedom to not wear it. Forcing women to do one or the other is taking away their freedom.
What if some of those who want to wear a Burqa were actually born in that Western nation? They should be forced to leave their home country or give up the right to choose what clothing to wear (a right every other woman has) because other people think they are being oppressed when they choose to wear it?
http://thedailycougar.com/2010/03/11/face-veil-proposal-outrages-some-students/ What about these American/Western students at the University of Houston?
You are completely right freedom cuts all ways and if it was only about what one culture or a majority of a culture find acceptable that really wouldn't be freedom.
No. I am saying in her mind she thought she was standing up for oppressed women all over the Islamic world. And don't get me started, I will send Sam Fisher over to whip your ass. DD
I wish they used them in Germany to cover up those beauties over there. And i'm not concerned about style advice from the people that revere David Hasselhoff!
Germans actually look good in headscarves -- especially when they fall over their faces and become masks.
Hahahaha The woman is Emirati, she's probably better educated than anyone on this board. Emirati women are one of the most educated groups in the world, and easily the most politically active in the Middle East. The last thing she needs is someone acting like a dog biting and scratching for "human rights". Marlene can go F herself and her holier than thou behavior. Key: you don't have to think a burqa is a good idea, you just have to mind your own damn business if you can't do so without acting like a filthy animal.
Not being able to vote is for men and women, so it has nothing to do with Marlene's actions. Walking behind your husband is something for Saudi Arabia, not the UAE. Only Saudi doesn't allow women drivers. But good of you to stereotype!
This doesn't change the fact that citizens shouldn't go around biting other humans. Maybe she's jealous that this woman can probably afford to pay the $168 fine, probably per hour if she had to.
Well since their are Niqabis living in the West, western law is going to have to adapt, just as it has done in history. I do agree though that people who value freedom should leave France. The inability to cover your own face. Imagine that.
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Taking away the freedom is counter-productive. On the one hand you supposedly get rid of a bad habit, on the other hand, you teach them that taking freedoms away is an acceptable way to solve this problem. They could just TEACH people about this history of the niqab, and let adults decide for themselves with their brains what they want to do. They could be harsher on women that report their husband is forcing them to wear it. There's tons of stuff. But to say you can't cover your face - I swear history will show this as an unusually idiotic thing that happened in the past.
Why would they cover their face? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_law_on_secularity_and_conspicuous_religious_symbols_in_schools
All irrelevant. Women are not robots for anyone to control. Not the husband and not the government. This law essentially tells these women that they are too braindead to think for themselves. What about those who are not married, not forced to wear it, but want to wear it? The main problem with this law is that it tells those who voluntarily wear it "here is the rationale for those who are forced. As for you, you're an idiot so we have to force you." How about you ban forced marriages. How about you protect against domestic abuse. How about you educate people. How about you stop taking rights away from women under the guise of giving rights to women. How about all that. These people don't care about women. They just don't want to be annoyed if they bumped into one of the 2,000 women who do wear it in France. Good job. Now the forced ones are going to be forced to stay home, and the non-forced ones are going to be pissed for being mistreated. Awesome.
