Even if Nadal does play Wimbledon, Federer looks to be in great shape to follow up his 1st French with #15. I'm actually a Nadal fan but I also like Federer and have no doubt that he is the GOAT. I would've thought that even if he never won a French or another major. Federer is simply the most complete player ever. His overall skill and shotmaking ability is unparalleled in the history of the sport. On top of having more pure skill than any current or previous player, he's also the smartest player I've ever seen - maybe a genius. If his skill alone doesn't beat you, his mind usually will. It's hard to grasp the insanity of making it to at least the semis in 20 straight slams as well as playing in 15 of the last 16 finals. He's by no means done either. He could still win a handful more, despite his age and the rise of Nadal, Murray and Djokovic.
With the way Fed is playing, Nadal's injury, and the up and down nature of Djok/Murray, I forsee Fed winning Wimbledon and the US Open. The only player that takes Fed out of his game is a healthy Rafa, and it doesn't look like he is going to be healthy whether he plays in Wimbledon or not.
Agreed. Murray has played Federer well but has yet to break through in majors. I'd say he has the best chance if Nadal is banged up but he needs to take that next step.
Sampras said yesterday that Federer is the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport? Agree?
Federer is definitely the goat. Over the last 5 years either he has won the tournament or he has lost to the person who won. Unlike other players he just is so consistently great.
He and Nadal made the sport exciting again since the Sampras-Agassi rivalry years. As good as Federer is, it's amazing how long he has kept it up and I foresee him to have 2 or 3 more great years in him. Yes, he's the greatest of all time.
Not in my opinion, but I certainly don't have any problem with people who think he is. I just don't feel comfortable with the talent level in Tennis during his time at #1. I do know that I've never seen a player that made the game look so smooth. He plays as if he isn't even trying. The state of tennis in the United States has certainly helped him. I miss the days of Sampras, Agassi, or even those that came before, Connors, Mcenroe, and Ashe.
Federer really IS that good.. he floats around.. makes crazy shots, and never gives the impression of "trying"..
No doubt. I just wonder what would have happened had he had a player like Nadal to go up against his whole career. Borg, Lendel, McEnroe, Connors, & Vilas all beat up on each other.
