So, it has been a little over 3 weeks since I and my wife (soon to be ex-wife) signed our marital dissolution agreement. Divorce won't be final until sometime in the middle of November since we have a minor child under the age of 18.

Teaching high school math to a bunch of kids that don't want to be there has kept me busy and I find myself treasuring my weekends (this one especially). I know that at some point I will probably have some interest in getting back into the dating pool but maybe not until this spring or even next summer. I just enjoy being able to do things that I want to do and not worry about someone else being on my ass about not doing this or doing that.

I know we got some divorced people on here - anyone else feel like that you probably are done with long-term relationships? I can see myself, possibly getting married again but not until my son is ready to go to college which is 16 years from now. If I meet someone before then, I guess we might live together which is something I probably never thought would happen (but then I probably never thought I would get divorced, let alone married!).

I see people who get divorced and feel the need to find someone else almost immediately. Different strokes for different folks, I guess - I don't feel that way.

Guess I'll make this into a poll so we can have some more discussion.

I can't say I'm experienced with divorce, but IMO stay free.

Freedom is happiness. Why do you think the entire world fights to be free?

I am happy for you Manny, try to stay friends with the ex for the good of your kiddo.

The child is all that matters now.

And from the other side's perspective:

Next month my wife and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

And that is most impressive because you got married at 53.

The wifey and I are on year 12 of marriage. Almost 15 years together now.

I love me some alone time, too, but I am so glad to not be in the dating silliness.

Well, this thread took a turn. It'll be 34 years for my dear lady and myself in early February, and 38 years since she moved in front of my garage apartment near Hermann Park. Didn't intend to have kids, but changed our minds at "the last minute," so we started late. A son going to a university out of state, and a daughter starting her sophomore year at a highly regarded magnet high school here in Austin. Ups and downs over the years, but we consider ourselves pretty lucky.

Sorry Manny, I can't offer any advice, except that I am glad my wife did not decide to stay free after her first marriage ended. 31 years and counting for us.

i am still married and hope to never have to go through divorce, but i have told my wife,

if for some reason we dont work out i dont see myself putting this much effort into a relationship again, its hard maintaining a relationship, the commitment and the emotional rollercoasters you go through, we have been together 15/16 years and if this doesnt work i would have to go through all of what it took to get this far

It has been 41 years now. 42 next 4/1/12. Yes APRIL FOOLS DAY . Would not change any thing.

Do not know what I would do without her, She has been at my side and on my side through good and bad times.

Every day I wake up and she has not killed me in my sleep is wonderful!

Really guys? Manny is talking about his divorce and your using his thread to brag how long you've been married? Rude.

Manny, you have such a timeline set up already! I'm sure if/when you find love again things will just fall into place in their own time. Don't let some B ruin the beautiful thing that a marriage can be.
