Free throws is what will allow Cavs to beat GS where ROX could not

If its not obvious how something as simple as making free throws is so important and makes the difference between winning and losing a game, and a series, last night's Cavs win at GS should be all you need for proof. Gone was the GS hack-a-whoever, except a couple times that actually worked out in the Cavs favor, and the Cavs strong inside game of rebounding and scoring outperformed GS's fickle 3-point shooting.

If there is 1 item that the ROX need to work on the most this offseason (and I'll be so mad if it doesn't improve next season) is the free throws. ROX have the strong inside game, and while rebounding can improve, it's not the killer that missing free throws has become.

    Champions make their free throws.

Having bigs that are bad free throws shooters isn't a huge problem.

Having bigs - multiple - that shoot at, near or under 40% is a huge problem.

    just my opinion

heh? they almost lost the game on big missed fts. Thompson missed 2 big ones, LeBron made 1-2 so if Shumpert doesnt deflect that ball, the Warriors are one Klay Thompson 3 from winning the game. 70% FT is a mediocre percentage.

Maybe you mean "Lebron" instead of Fts? And the cavs wont win the series anyway.

The difference wasnt FT shooting. It was the Cavs' ability to contain Curry.

Having a point guard that isn't receiving Social Security is what will allow Cleveland to have a chance at beating the Warriors. Also, the guys that killed us (Barnes, Livingston, Green) have all regressed back to mediocrity for the most part in the first 2 games of this series. If one of them has a big game, that's a game the Warriors will win.

Free throws? Here I was thinking it was defense and some guy named LeBron. Man, I was way off.

There is a guy named Lebron James that might also be making a difference. The guy who is averaging like a triple double with 40 points or something close to that. LOL

    FTM's > FT%

Dwight Howard makes about 2 more FT's per game than Calvin Murphy did. I'll take Dwight.

Go back and look at the games where Howard and Smith lost the Rox the games at the line and then come back.

what will save the Cavs are the refs if they keep calling it tight and not let GS get away with all the stuff they've gotten away with all season. holding under basket during rebounds, holding at top of key during the roll, moving screens, palming, feet shuffling, hacking arms instead of ball, looking like they got hit with a sniper rifle anytime the wind blows the wrong way, etc.

The variance of how many and what kind of fouls the refs are going to call is higher than any stat measured by the box score.

Well put. The Rockets have the biggest bullseye in the league on the Hack-A-??? dart board. In fact, the board itself is practically one big bullseye.

Also, when your number one big is terrible at FTs and is not a one-man, indomitable scoring machine like Shaq, then you do have a problem. I think Dwight's savior is going to be a skinny kid named Capela, who's going off to learn to shoot from Dirk's coach. Dwight appears to be non-salvageable at the line, but finally, we'll have someone to put in for him when they do try to hack him. If Capela keeps improving at the rate he is, Dwight's going to be taken out a lot more quickly in games.

Does any stat out there attempt to measure unforced turnovers or self-caused turnovers or dumbass turnovers or whatever you call them? The Rockets may not be the pit of the league for official turnovers per game (though very close), but they HAVE to be the team that leads in DUMBASS turnovers.

Look, people, the Cavs-Warriors series is only 2 games long so far. In the first 2 games of the Warriors-Rockets series, the games were very close just like the first 2 of the GSW-CLE games. The fact that the Rockets didn't pull out a win has quite a bit to do with luck.

Lets see how the rest of the series goes first before giving Cleveland that much credit. They had 2 close games with GSW, won 1, I still don't think they can win it all. LeBron's probably gonna get tired at some point-- remember, Harden was quite good vs. GSW, too, until he just couldn't carry the burden any more. GSW also has more talented guys and more ways to experiment and create match-up issues.

I think you are right. Howard alone does not seem to be a big problem. The coaches can take him out. But Smith also? I can see why it would be a problem.

Our FT issue is a big problem, bottom line, every point counts in close games....but i dont think that's why we couldn't beat GS.
