Thanks, DD. I'll give you my thoughts as soon as my Time Warner starts working again.... Never played the original, but would you recommend a game pad or keyboard and mouse?

I'll give it a run when I'm off later today. I was in bed grumpy about the quality of the Rockets play being no better than the Texans....

Sure, send one over, I loved Descent when it originally came out - we had customers drooling over it in Circuit City when I was at work selling computers!

Damn, I missed this thread because I wanted to avoid the kneejerks in the GARM after I got home from the game. Oh well, looking forward to hear what those who got keys have to say about it.

Well I am a huge moron for backing this thing on kickstarter. Should have just waited for free keys. lesson learned.

Just played a couple of rounds against bots. Pretty fun game and cool 3D shooter.

My biggest issue while test playing were the controls, and for a 3D shooter like this, controls mean everything. I prefer a keyboard + mouse because WASD gives me forward, backwards, left, right, and space bar + Left Shift gives me up and down. It's a bit harder on the gamepad because to go up or down, you have to take your right thumb off the look joystick. I had an issue with sensitivity for the mouse. I upped it to the max, but it didn't feel like the smoothness of the joystick. Maybe it was limit of the ship or the lack of real estate with a mouse compared to an infinite toggle joystick, but I hope a mouse can emulate a joystick better.

Also, the control/binding menu. That is a mess to navigate! Each function has a separate drop-down menu, and without knowing the game or controls, it's hard to associate a function to its button let alone what it means in game. I can imagine it's difficult to design an intuitive control/keybinding menu, but I had a hard time figuring it out.

Just some first impressions. I'm intrigued now. As far as gameplay, the default map is pretty small and tight, especially with a poor turn radius with a mouse. Also, I hated how bots will be right in your face as soon as a door opens. Maybe the doors need to open further away instead of being right on it? I'm curious to know what other testers have mentioned.
