Can we ignore NJRocket, since he is the only one promoting hate in this thread, and move to the topic on hand?

Thanks for posting the thread adeel. I will be getting the copy of Quran and will try to do some readings.

BTW...NJRocket, point of asking about your education was not to verify your status. It was to indicate that you are not acting as someone who would be educated. An educated person respects differing opinions and thinks critically. As someone else pointed out, high school diploma does not count in this case. If you dont want someone to question you about your lack of education, then dont act like it, be it on a message board or in person.

you are so wise......so i should respect your thoughts on the quran but my thoughts are promoting hatred because they are different? Listen bandwagon boy...point out where I promoted hate....and dont use that I disgraced the quran as promoting hate...i merely disgraced it because terrorists live by its words. Sorry if I'm not as politically correct as you are. Maybe you will win an election one day because you appeal to the masses in the D and D.

The more you post, the more you prove my point as well as other's on this thread. bandwagon boy? *laugh*... read the questioning of education part again. You are incapable of carrying on a conversation without hurling random insults. Where did you promote hate? Read back to your previous posts. No it wont start of with "I am NJRocket and I hereon spread hate..." but its very well implied and caught on by everyone. Do yourself a favor and go to the nearest college and take a course called "Thinking critically". It will do wonders for you.

Until then, I will save myself some time by just skipping right past your posts.

Adeel - Couple of my friends and are interested in learning about Islam in general and the Koran. Are there people like priests that one can go and talk to? If so, how approachable are they? When I have had questions about Christianity, I have had a very easy time talking to priests at local churches.

Not trying to derail the thread but all of this education talk really irritates the **** out of me. I have a high school education and here are a list of some of the things that I have accomplished:

I can tie my own shoes and a half windsor .
I can think on my own and make my own decisions.
I can have an intelligent conversation and I understand multi-syllabal words.
I can wipe my own ass and I can read a book.
I own my own company and I make over six figures.
I own my own home and I have good credit.

Maybe this should be another thread but an education does not make a person. Going to college does not validate your life or suddenly liberate your thinking. Being uneducated also does not put me and others on the same level as a few of the douche bags in this thread. I am probably overreacting but it really pisses me off when I see this kind of crap. Apologies in advance.

I'll echo the sentiment of many here in saying that this thread has been derailed enough. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone here cares what AggieRocket thinks nor does anyone care what NJRocket thinks.

If you want a copy of the Qur'an, then you should get one. If not, then don't.

I agree with you 110% and if I implied that you need a college education to validate yourself, then that certainly was not my intent. If my education question (which unfortunately started all of this education talk) came out like that, then I sincerely apologize to you and anyone else that might have offended. If my comment came out like that, then you do not owe me or anyone else an apology. I owe you an apology and I hope you accept it :)

When I said "educated", high school versus college versus grad school was a small part of it. I was mainly referring to the type of education you get at home. The type of education where you are respectful of others and their beliefs. The type of education that teaches you to appreciate and embrace the qualities that make us unique and different. The type of education where you are polite and civil. Very little of that education comes from school. You learn that from home and through your acquaintances. That education is expected of everyone that functions in society. It has nothing to do with school.

I will also go on to say that you are definitely not on the same level as some of the intolerant and divisive people that post here.

Once again, if I offended you, I do apologize.

MB - The point of an education is not just simply about how much $$ you can make, or what kind of houseyou own, or car you drive, or how successful you are in financial terms. You are right, you do not NEED an education for those. What higher education does reward you with are reasoning skills. It makes you interact with people from different backgrounds and lets you understand them better. It makes you ask the right questions and gives you tools to find the answers to those questions on your own. It lets you evaluate matters without bias. I and most other people I talk to, agree that, a well rounded education develops you as a human being.

There are lots of gas station owners out there, without any formal education, who make much more $$ than, let's say, a high school teacher. In general though, who do you think could hold an intelligent conversation?

That was the point of bringing education up in this thread by some. It was not about money, it was about holding up to a conversation. No one asked what NJRocket's yearly salary is.

BTW, it is a generalization. There are always people who dont fit in this mold from both sides.

You hurled random insults of everyone who holds the qu'ran holy in this very thread. You didn't direct your insults at just the extremists but at the qu'ran in general.

It is disingenuous to hurl insults around and then pretend that all you did was not fulfill someone's idea of PC. I hate PC as much as anyone. But I hate bigotry more. Broad generalizations and stereotypes based on the actions of few in the minority of a particular faith would certainly qualify as bigotry. Doing that then trying to hide behind only blaming a few extremists and those who are PC isn't even owning up to your words in this very thread.

    At the same time?

JK, congratulations on your success! That is very admirable whether or not you went to college.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I guess that since I didn't go to college I have no reasoning skills. I guess that since I am sought after by Fortune 500 companies from all over the US to help design, implement, and support their networks, but more specifically their software integration and distribution, that I have no reasoning skills. I'm sure that its only possible to do that with a college degree because Lord knows I really need to take a course on French Literature to be able to troubleshoot SMS collections and queries. More important than that, I know that taking another Biology lab is going to show me how to build relationships with corporate executives, project managers, and other IT professionals.

I dont own a gas station and it isnt about money. There are plenty of people that do not have a college education that are cultured and well spoken. I also know quite a few college educated people that are complete idiots. There are idiots and good people in both groups. Just like adeel doesnt like all muslims to be pigeon holed as terrorists, not all "uneducated" people are dumbasses.

    Edit:
HA!! I just caught this jem.

You are biased that all people without a college education do not have reasoning skills. Never speak in absolutes college boy, or did they not teach you that in college???? ;)

I specifically used the term "well rounded" education. A biology, chemistry, or physics course will not teach you other than...biology, chemistry, or physics. A good college will have a well rounded education. You will be asked to take humanities, cultural, and thinking courses besides your technical or specialty courses.

I never spoke in absolute. I never said you own a gas station. You are putting words in my mouth. I said IN GENERAL. Where did I speak in absolute terms? Where did i say "all people"? Would you agree or disagree that IN GENERAL, an educated person can hold a conversation better than an uneducated one? Once again, in general does not mean all. Maybe I am using "in general" wrongly but if there is a confusion then let me clear it up by saying that it is not in the context of ALL.

As for "it lets you evaluate matters without bias" in this context....I evaluated based on what NJRocket posted. Similarly if I were to evaluate you I would do it based on what you posted. Based on what/how you post I can say that you can post or converse intelligently. Did I let my "bias" about someone not getting an education change my decision? No. So I dont see whhere you are getting at with that "gem" If anything, it proves my point.

Just because you did not go to college, does not mean you have to discredit college education and get so defensive about it. I guess all those people taking out $100k loans to get an education are feeling pretty dumb right about now.

Any Mosque you go to will have TONS of people willing to answer your questions or point you towards the right direction of a person qualified to answer your questions. Recently i had the opportunity to speak with a former christian who was thinking of converting. He was really impressed with the embracement of the Muslim community, and the going out of the way approach that the Imam(leader/priest) of the mosque attented to him with.

Let me know what city you are in, and ill be sure to try and get some names, numbers and addresses for your friends.

    Thanks.
