Great player and great fit... when healthy. Boom or bust risk. Honestly though, I don't see us signing a front court FA. I think we're going to sign Harden and then trade Jalen, KPJ, and KMJ plus picks for either Dame or Jaylen Brown.
Honestly though the more I think about it the more I don't hate it (if we don't draft Wemby or Jarace Walker). He does address multiple needs if healthy, and when he inevitably gets hurt, we still have Sengun and Jabari. I think we have enough room in the rotation to give each of those guys 30+ minutes a game otherwise. He is eligible for around $40M AAV though and I would not go anywhere close to that high on a 3-4 year deal. A 1-2 year "prove it" deal might make sense for both parties if he wants to bet on himself. Still young enough to get another 4 year contract after that.
Well they would be some upset if both those guys got injured and the odds are good they will. Not a good gamble.
Y’all sleeping on KP. His injury history is the only reason I don’t want him at the price he’ll demand
I agree. I personally wouldn’t pay him what he’s going to get, all due to injuries. But he would immediately be the most productive and best player on this team (not saying much). But borderline elite defensively and shoots .385 from 3
For sure lol. I’m not saying I want him, but if you could guarantee health, Porzingis is a great player and talent
He's also scoring 23 points on 15 shots. Really good efficiency. But he literally hasn't played a single full season in his entire career, which is obviously the issue. A lot of it is going to be contract length. You don't want to get locked into a 4 year contract for like $150M for a guy who could have a career-ending injury at any time & is highly likely to miss 40% of the season. Maybe if you're the Rockets you're willing to pay him nearly max salary as long as it's only a 2 year deal? Perhaps a deal where he could earn a player option on a 3rd year if he plays more than 135 games or something? You just really don't want to kill cap flexibility more than 2 years down the road.
I was wondering the same thing. Admittedly, I rarely watch the Wizards, but have always considered him to be a giant marshmallow that’s soft and doesn’t rotate. I guess he’s improved. At least according to some of these stats. The more you know.
For what it's worth, RAPTOR thinks he's been the 24th most valuable player in the NBA this season. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nba-player-ratings/
He hasn't actually improved. He's just bad at every other defensive thing, and teams know it so they pull him out into every other defensive thing. All this stat is telling us is that when someone meets him at the rim and he was there, he was pretty good at contesting the shots. If he didn't ever contest 3pters and teams were raining down 3's on him, those wouldn't show up here and that's exactly the issue with Porzingis.
