FVV missed all-defense last season by a single spot. I don’t want him either, but there’s no need to make up narratives. He’s a good defender. He has been his whole career.
For FVV to play for the Rockets, they will need to seriously overpay. This may not be a bad thing. Having a competent PG will aid the development process (except KPJ) and will be a significant step toward the playins. The Rockets do need to bring in a veteran PG this off-season. A better value proposition would be to trade for a good PG2 and mildly overpay him. Or run it back with D.J. Augustin, especially if they end up drafting a PG like Henderson, Wallace, or ..., who will need PT to develop ... maybe a 50/50 split with a vet PG. FVV aint going to sign up for that.
I think FVV is only signed if: We don’t draft Scoot Harden doesn’t want to come here We don’t make a disgruntled star trade for Trae Young. In the scenario where we land Wemby or trade the pick for Brown then a solid veteran PG like FVV would be great. Dream scenario would be you draft Wemby, trade all your other assets not Jabari or Green for Brown, sign Harden if he wants to come back or FVV if he does not.
This dude is making $20 mil a year lol. He's 29 years old. He's either looking to cash out with this contract, which means overpaying him.. Or playing to set himself up for his last big contract. Which means he'll want shot attempts/high usage. I'm not a big fan of his game. If he agrees to play less like a scorer and more like a facilitator, I'd consider it.
Even though he's not my first choice as a new addition to this team this offseason I'd love to have him next to Green. There's a lot of ways Rockets could go depending on their draft pick, but if we don't get Scoot then FVV would help our young core a ton. There's a lot of outcomes I'd be happy with this offseason. I doubt we hit a "grand slam" and don't think we need to. I believe in our young core of guys and want players who can bring the most out of them.
Here's a thought I had about FVV. What if we offered him a 1 year max + $40M player option contract? So from our perspective essentially $80M over 2 years. Any chance he bets on himself and says yes to that?
Well, he seem to be professional, mature and a leader in the locker room. We need that but he is less talented than Harden. If Harden is playing us again then I guess he is the guy. We can also help Amen to get ready for the NBA. Then we have to go after Cam and Lopez hard.
If you want Harden over Van Fleet you're a idiot. Van Fleet is the traditional pg we need next to Jalen. He's hard-nosed guard who can control the game and also makes good decisions. We should pursue him
He's made $60m for his entire career, so he should be pretty happy with that haul. But I'm sure he will get a 4/$120M offer.
He is a point guard who do not turn the ball over, his turnovers a game is very low each season. He might be the point guard we need. He could help Amen a lot his first year…32 million per year?…how much do we pay Cam Johnson or Lopez?
An "average" player who averaged 19/4/7 with only 2 TO's this year. An all star, a champ and a dude known as an above average defender and a good leader. C'mon Chumlee why so negative?
Who else? Pat Beverly! We cannot be picky. The NBA and some players look down on our franchise. We need to overpay for our free agents and smile while doing it.
The guy who is a career 40% from the field and shot 39% last season? A 29 year old who is more inefficient than Jalen and KPJ? Okay lol
He takes an absolutely ridiculous number of three pointers though which deflates his overall shooting percentage. (Career 37% three point shooter.) In 2021-22 he was #3 in the entire league in 3 pointers made. His TS% the last three seasons combined was 54.3%, which is uninspiring but not terrible. His assist/turnover ratio is also pretty good at 7.2 assists to only 2.0 turnovers. So factoring in his playmaking, I'd say his overall offensive efficiency is decent-to-good. He's also a good defensive player. He has never been and will never be a DPOY type of guy due to his height, but similar to his former teammate, Rockets Legend Kyle Lowry, he can make an impact with his tenacity and steals.
Draft Abust Thompson, overpay FVV ($35m/yr) and Dillon Brooks ($18m/yr), win 25 games, give up the 5th pick to OKC. Bright future.
