Since we got FVV then we must commit and get Lopez. Fills a massive need and can fill the Dikembe sized hole in our hearts.
According to my notes, Rockets have about 27m left in cap space. You could of course up that in 2m increments if you were able to trade KMJ, Gup, Garuba or TyTy. That leaves the the Room Exception out there for Brooks or maybe a guy like Mason Plumlee as a backup big. SnTs in for Tate remain a possibility as well.
How about Torrey Craig with the room exception? Good spot-up shooter and defensive player. Seems like an Udoka kind of guy.
I do not know if Brooks is really undecided or it’s a negotiation ploy. Wanting more money from Milwaukee or a extra year from Houston??? Give him 24 millions a year for 2 or 3 years and keep bring up Texas is a non tax income state….we should be fine. They have a new coach, who is wanting to develop a perimeter pressure defense so they might not want to pay over 20 million for him. The Bucks beat reporter have said they are looking at Christian Wood if Brooks leaves

Good that we locked up FVV first, at least it shows Lopez we are serious about having a winning culture. The Bucks want to give him 3 years $54m. Let's do what we did with FVV, offer him the same money with fewer years (like 2 years $54m). I think that's actually exactly how much cap space is left over right now ($27m starting salary). If they get Lopez I don't mind if they then figure out a way to sign Brooks. I don't like Brooks but at least we will have prioritized our needs before taking him on as a risky project.
Teams with significant cap room left: San Antonio- $29M Houston- $25M Sacramento- $18M Key free agents on the board D'Angelo Russell Russell Westbrook Ayo Dosunmu (R) Patrick Beverley Austin Reaves (R) Max Strus Donte DiVincenzo Eric Gordon Miles Bridges Dillon Brooks Matisse Thybulle (R) PJ Washington (R) Grant Williams (R) Trey Lyles Paul Reed (R) Brook Lopez Mason Plumlee Christian Wood
The more I think about it, the more I feel that Brook Lopez would take a few minutes from Bari, not from Alpi (whose minutes will go up). Bari was supposed to be this 3-point specialist and rim protector, which is exactly what Lopez's strengths are. In any case, there are 96 minutes at the C/PF position. If Tari plays more SF and Garuba either gets traded or plays spot minutes, that leaves plenty of minutes for all three of Alpi, Brook, Bari in a big rotation.
we have the $7.72mil. room exp. anyway, that'll be more than whatever left in the cap after a Brook Lopez signing (i'm guessing about $3-5mil. left after giving Lopez $20-22mil. first year)
I really want Lopez, but I also think the front office has to avoid any more 3-year deals. I get that they needed to go overboard to get the top guy who filled the biggest need, but unless they're bringing in a younger guy who they think will be a part of the longer-term roster, that has to be the last 3-year deal they offer. Offer Lopez every dollar you can at 2 years, and if he still turns you down, move on to other options. A Capela trade is there for the taking if they want it, and there's other quality defenders they can add.
You actually don't get an additional $2MM for each of those players sent out. The nba adds cap holds to your team cap if your team is under 12 players. So, it would only be the small difference of salary from TyTy and a minimum salary. They could include Tate in a Raptors sign and trade for FVV which would push the amount we can offer Brook Lopez up. But, it would also get rid of one of the potential sign and trade scenarios for Dillon Brooks. I actually think Lopez is more important than any other free agent and we should do whatever it takes to get him. BL will give Jalen and Amen the best chance to succeed on offense and defense. If they don't succeed with a rim protector and 3 point shooting big man, I don't when they will.
Don’t sign and trades hard cap us at the first apron and for how long? I know that’s been voiced as a concern, but don’t really understand the ramifications.
