Screw it then, don’t get anyone and let Pierce and Dare run it back. We aren’t changing the line so no point then.
Whitehead would be a nice pickup. He didn't miss a single game since starting with the Jets in 2022. He led the team with 4 interceptions last season and his 97 tackles ranked third on the team behind LBs C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams.
whatever moves we make in free agency/draft will be obvious in hindsight given this quote from January
I prefer Barkley over any over available running back due to his twitch, signing him would be a game changer cause he can make guys miss then put on the jets
Whitehead hasn't given up a passer rating over 89 since his rookie season. And he's only 26. Amazing really. His usage in Tampa is everything Meco wants from that position. Snapcount in last year of his TB stint: According to PFF, he had 334 snaps in the box, 265 snaps at free safety, 191 in the slot and 42 at corner. https://www.newyorkjets.com/news/jets-safety-jordan-whitehead-and-hits-that-hurt-so-good McKinney and Whitehead, would love either. I wouldn't be looking for Safety if Ward could stay healthy or was younger. Unfortunately it's a position that has to be looked at.
I'd prefer a CB or safety, or a defensive stud over a RB in free agency. Defense baby! I'd even prefer a really good run blocker in FA over another RB. Singletary is fine with me. We just need better run blocking. We ranked 20th league-wide in Pro Football Focus' run blocking grades, and I want another player to replace those injury riddled or simply not performing.
Stop bringing up saquon. Christian McCaffrey got shut down in the super bowl. There is a blueprint to winning and it involves elite defense and elite QB play. Elite RB is nowhere on this list. When was the last time a team with a great RB won the super bowl?
Petrie needs to be replaced. I would try Petrie at Nickle Bring in a guy like Whitehead hopefully at a 3-4 mil cost, bring back Houston Carson and draft a guy to go along with Ward. Caserio was checking out Mustafa at the Sr. Bowl. He's a good looking S prospect that you could probably draft at 4-125 or so.
Shanny was what stopped CMC. But I do agree with you and would invest heavily in the front 7 in FA and a blocking TE/WR on offense. I'm thinking a guy like Ray Davis/Bucky Irving/Trey Benson could be available around 125 or so.
After a little time, I've come up with a two player FA splurge. Michael Danna DE FA from KC to team with WAJ for an est $16.7M/yr Still young with 2 SB on his belt. Justin Madubuike DT from Baltimore to team with Maliek Collins for an est $20.3M/yr. Still young and from A&M. Together that's $37M to take the line to an elite level and each could receive 4 year contracts solidifying the D and leaving the draft for other positions. It also has the advantage of taking great players from playoff competitors.
Not too familiar with his game or contract situation, but yay or nay? I’m all for poaching afc contenders weapons though.
I do wish the draft came before Free Agency. It would be nice to know whether you need to sign a WR because you drafted a DT or visa versa.
The problem is they only have one tag and they are already over their cap and they are already paying a ton in dead cap for restructured deals in past years.
