Good luck with that New Line, but I guess enough people watch the Texas Chainsaw remakes and the Rob Zombie F13th movie to make them want to do this. It would be nice if somebody could actually take an oppurtunity like this and try to make a good movie.
Man, remakes are just getting past out of hand lately. Remakes of something that needs an update, I understand (i.e. Clash of The Titans). But something that is terrific the way it is...just leave it alone...
Freddy scared me the most as a kid too, even though Pinhead just looks a little scarier, I just didn't understand the guy.
Jason/Michael Myers are essentially the same person. Unstoppable killing machines with no reason for that they do and no remorse. Pinhead/Hellraiser was pretty scary, but it bordered on Sci-Fi with lots of backstory. Freddy never really scared me. It might be because it came out when I was in High School and the boogey man didn't scare me any more. Poltergiest scared the crap out of me when I was a kid. The EFFING TREE coming to life and trying to eat the kid was horrible. And the Tequila worm coming to life was pretty scary, too. I voted for Leatherface/Texas Chainsaw. This movie still gives me nightmares. It's in the middle of nowhere, and Leatherface will just put your ass on a HOOK so he can cut you up later. And if you're the guest of honor, Grampa will try to bash your head in with a hammer. And the set was scary as hell with all of the bones everywhere. -shiver-
But that is only if he can catch you or you trip on a twig. Freddy 0wnz your ass in your dreams, so you are pretty much SOL.
I wonder what happened to the prequel they were planning that followed Freddy's adventures before the Elm Street parents mounted up on him? It's very disheartening to read that Robert Englund might not be in it as he really made the role... Don't see how age could be a factor considering how much makeup he has to put on, unless of course they are going with the prequel idea.
