if Amen starts along with FVV, it may be at wing position, he is listed as guard-forward here in NBA-Rockets roster https://www.nba.com/rockets/roster
You don't need a PG when AMEN is ready, you can start him at point forward and have two scoring SGs playing with......all 6'6" or taller would be a great lineup - no more oompa loompas in the backcourt. And you don't start a guy who can't shoot well at the off guard position you start ones who can shoot well.....to compliment Amen. DD
Let's be realistic... I'm one of Amen's biggest boosters, but we didn't pay FVV the max to sit on the bench. Amen will come off the bench to start the season. If he's as good as I think he'll be, he may force us to trade FVV next offseason or at the following trade deadline (not this season's deadline but the next one). If Amen manages to get 30mpg it will come at the expense of KPJ, Tari, and/or Dillon Brooks, not FVV.
Sorry Charlie in a meritocracy doesn't matter where you were drafted, or how much money you make, Ime will play the best players, regardless of draft position or contract. And we have already proven that we are willing to sit guys with big contracts if it benefits the team. The Rockets will be ruthless with this as they should be, the players will get their money. If FVV is the best option he plays, if not, he sits - same with any player. It's a new day, a new dawn, and the Rocks are feeling.......good! DD PS - FVV was brought in to teach the kids how to be pros, once that is over, his usefulness is done ..... and that is why he is only signed for 2 years.....he is a temporary solution - at the right time.
If he is starting the coach has determined that at that time he is the best man for the job. I honestly think it will take Ime 3 months to sort out a rotation, but he will play those that he believes to be the best, I don't for one second believe he cares where anyone was drafted or what their contract says....nor should he. Roll the ball out and COMPETE for playing time. Regarding FVV though, which this thread is about he is a temporary solution until Amen is ready, so we will have to see when that is...hopefully sooner than later, but it might take a couple years. The point is that FVV is no FRANCHISE Player, those guys don't sign 2 year make good contracts......he is a good solid role player who got lucky we had a ton of cap room and had to overpay for his services.... Franchise player, that is funny.......CX should be in comedy on this one. DD
No I think he learned from Popovich and will adopt his philosophy of coaching which is the best we have had in these parts since Rudy or Rick Adelman. Why you hating on our coach before he has even started coaching? Is your mom a Celtic's executive's wife? DD
We all know that all this talk about meritocracy only applies to the young guys on rookie contracts, not the veterans who just got a big payday.
There is zero evidence of that - Stone has proven to be willing to pay if it is better for the team - I don't believe money matters - it will be who is the best option on the floor. It might matter going INTO preseason but once the leather hits the floor, it is all about ability. DD
Amen is 6’7 with a 7 foot wingspan, that’s prototypical wing size. Assuming Jalen is everything we hope he is, Fvv, Jalen and Amen can easily all start together when Amen is eventually ready.
Fvv isn’t a franchise player. But he’s more of a franchise player than any other player that got a franchise player thread until they prove otherwise. Within the next 2 years if one other player on the team gets to his level we will be a playoff team. If two other players get there then that’s a borderline contender (3 allstars). The goal of building a championship team is to get MORE of players like this, why in the world would we get rid of him in two years lol?
Because he isn't good enough to lead a team anywhere, he is a stop gap player. BTW - good to see you admit he isn't a franchise player, even though you started this thread saying he was...... DD
They did not give him a fully guaranteed 4 year contract as far as I know, that means, they know he is not Top 1 or Top 2 perennial All Star. He is the defensive version of Ty Lawson the Denver version of course not the Houston drunk one.
Amen won't be on the bench for long. He's already our best passer/creator and possibly our best perimeter defender.
VV is a player for this franchise and he will be the lead guard for at least 1 yr if not 2. Depends on Amen's growth. Obviously he's the future. Think we're set at the 1 for a long time. Finally!
