Wow they just showed a gas station whose in line first fight on CNN, and the gas station attendant pepper sprayed this huge dude, who started wildly flailing back at him, until he got sprayed again. Saying it could be up to a month before houston catches back up in terms of getting gas replinished.
So for those of us who went to Dallas, when will stations have gas? They're all still out. Went to suburb of Lewisville yesterday and they're all out of gas too. Gonna need some soon.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...texas-help-to-ship-more-gasoline-after-harvey tl;dr Valero plants in Houston and Baytown stayed open through Harvey, but they've had to scale back production because pipeline owners wont take on extra product to the East coast.
Drove by a Shell station that just got their refill. $3.30 for 87, $4.00 for premium. Tensions were high. In the few minutes I was there I saw three different arguments outside, and one woman go inside to yell at the cashier. Only station I saw all day with gas. Just got lucky.
I thought price gouging was illegal. Should have taken a picture of that gas station and reported it.
I wonder if $3 something would qualify as price gouging. The $20/gallon station is obvious. But some states define it specifically, like not over 10% more than normal, or any price higher than normal during crisis is price gouging. Texas is more ambiguous, "exorbitant", "excessive", Idk where they draw the line. THis houston best buy probably qualified: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...s-accused-of-price-gouging-in-wake-of-harvey/ The hotels though, they get away with doubling/tripling their prices, because their "normal" prices are already a half to a third of the rate signs you see posted on the inside of your room's door. They can safely go up to that super high stated price.
Yeah two different people went in to yell about the price. Then one guy was yelling to no one in particular. Once he got out his frustration I talked to him for a bit. He had passed at least 10 stations and since he had a Dodge [Something] he had to get premium, which was $4. Was mad that on the news they keep assuring everyone that there is not a gas shortage, yet no stations in or around Dallas have any gas. And yeah some people trying to force their way in line.
I think it's only illegal in areas that have suffered a disaster so that's why the gas stations in Dallas can do that crap. I may be wrong, perhaps others who know more can chime in.
For those of us in Dallas/Austin, etc. planning on returning to Houston this week, what's the gas situation like in Houston and its surrounding areas? Similar to the idiots in Dallas/Austin or no long lines and price gouging?
Despite the flooding & evacs remaining in Brazoria county, lots of gas & grocery trucks are still somehow making it in
By Sunday, there was gas available at most Gas stations in Plano and Austin. Unfortunately, all this did was raise gas prices 40 cents for everyone. People are just sheep.
