After doing some research, it's clear the Rockets are off the hook for Rafer's contract if he's convicted assuming he signed a standard NBA contract, which contains a morality clause:

A uniform player contract for the National Basketball Association also has similar provisions. Sections 5 (Conduct) provides as follows:
    (a) The player agrees to observe and comply with all team rules, as maintained or promulgated in accordance with the NBA/MPBA collective bargaining agreement, at all times whether on or off the playing floor. Subject to the provisions of the NBA/NPBA collective bargaining agreement, such rules shall be part of this contract as fully as if herein written and shall be binding upon the player.
    (b) The player agrees.... not to do anything that is materially detrimental or materially prejudicial to the best interest of the team or of the league.
    (c) For any violation of team rules, any breach of provision of this contract, or for any conduct impairing the faithful and thorough discharge of the duties incumbent upon the player, the team may reasonably impose fines and/or suspensions on the player in accordance with the terms of the NBA/NPBA collective bargaining agreement.

    (From the CBA):
    Section 7. Unlawful Violence.
When a player is convicted of (including a plea of guilty, no contest, or nolo contendere to) a violent felony, he shall immediately be suspended by the NBA for a minimum of ten (10) games.

    Not sure about the cap.

Umm no, we are not free of Rafer's contract even if he is convicted. All they can do is fine, suspend, trade,or cut him, which will still count against the cap. By no means would we be "off the hook" of Rafer's contract.

Between the two threads, Rafer is at 15 pages and counting. Not much difference. When it comes to pure hatred for a player on this forum, Rafer is far out in front of SF. Not even close. Maybe that changes during the upcoming season, but I doubt it. The only person with a higher negative than Rafer right now is JVG, and he's gone.

SF hatred was so high . . they had it so you could no longer include former players. . .. that is how high the hatred of SF got . . .

You could not talk about him in the Garm . . .

I couldn't have explained myself better then Dakota and Manny already did.

It is surprising how our talent has increased ten-fold by just getting rid of Baldy. Some actually mocked me when I met Horry once and he told me NBA players our wary of playing for Van Stumpy. What would Horry know right? Who wouldn't want to play for Grumpy?

He is know as such a players coach.

Dumpy lovers can cry all they want, but he is gone and his loverboy will follow soon.

I clearly said I was talking about not having to pay him and that I wasn't sure about the cap implications.

I think some guy named Daryl Morey had something to do with all this new talent we got.

Yeah like Bonzi and Steve would be here if Stumpy was still the coach.

Probably wouldn't have drafted Brooks either. Would have traded him for a Knick or something. Or he would be rotting on the bench for ever.

Gundy was the biggest mistake by the Rockets ever! I rank his firing right up there with drafting Yao and trading for Tmac as the greatest three moments of the past decade.

Damn, its so sad to see so many board members with so much hatred for one man. Yall act like he slept with your wife, impregnated your daughter and killed your cat. Seriously, there is more to life than how you feel about JVG, much more. Say what you want but he helped YAO turn into a dominant beast on the low block and turned T-Mac into a complete player. YAO wouldn't be where he is today without JVG being hard on him the whole time. Folks would be complaining about how "soft" he is. Hell, T-Mac said himself that JVG is the best coach he played for. And I'll take his word any day over some deranged Rockets fan who is overly obsessed with hating JVG.

Exactly what other coach has Tmac played for? LOL! Exactly.

I'll give you the Yao part. Turned him into an inside presence, but completely took away any creativity from Yao's game.

And yes I do hate him. Because of his dumb ass we lost to the freakin Mavs and Jazz after being up 2-0 in both series. My love is only for the Rockets and the era of Gundy will be known for:

    Choke Jobs
    Boring ass Gundy Ball

    Bring on Adleman baby!!!!

unfortunately, jvg's coaching style and how he is a control freak really rubbed people the wrong way. i am sure once the season starts and adelman gets this team on the right path people well finally get over jvg.

Agreed. Morey taking over for CD is why this roster has been upgraded. Les' hiring of Morey without any input from JVG was the first signal that JVG the awful GM was out the door this summer even if JVG the coach had stayed on.

Whats the point of having JVG the coach if he refuses to utilize the talent or develop any young talent?

IMO Van Gumby was out either way.

Rafer has completely raped the Houston Rockets. The only thing I hope for now is that he does it again very soon and much worse this time. That way he can go to prison and be raped himself whilst relieving the organization of his salary because the guy certainly doesn't deserve it.

Who was it that brought this walking pile of cow flop to the Rockets? Oh yeah, it was Van Gundy... but I'll save my explatives for someone else.

Yao didn't look like a beast to me against the Jazz - he looked incredibly soft and as 03 said, who else is TMac going to say about being the best coach he ever had? Doc Rivers?? Johnny Davis?? LMAO. Call it hatred if you must but I did not care for that style of basketball along with the stubbornness of Gumby. Personally, I don't like the Bobby Knight/Vince Lombardi style of "My way or the highway". If you are going to utilize that philosophy then you better damn well be a champion which Lombardi and Knight ("Hey, Knight!") can say they are. Can Gumby say that? Hell no he can't.
