You laugh but I really think that this mental midget Alston has deliberately done this to sabotage any chances the Rockets have in trading him. Thanks to his ridiculous contract, he can just park his ass at the end of the bench and be getting more money than anyone else on this board we'll see in our lifetimes - makes me physically sick.

    03,

Have I told you lately that you are one of my favorite posters?

You give it a rest. He is worse then the Taliban living in commie countries who spy on us with alien spaceships.

Seriously, I dont get why some people have to come in and defend Reefer. The man is lucky to have dirty pictures of Van Stumpy. Otherwise he would have been out of the NBA a long time ago.

Don't let JVG off the hook, he is just as culpable as the rest.

I believe it was JVG who insisted on trading Mike James for Rafer in the first place. He wanted a more controllable PG.

JVG gets a ton of the blame for the roster last year, he helped put it together the years prior, it was only last year that management realized what a disaster he is at player evaluation, that they basically made him a lame duck and went their own way.

    Good for them !

If JVG would have had his way, Charlie Ward would still have been starting for the rockets last year.

Luckily God disagreed and struck Charlie down, later blessing us with the gems we came to know as Mark Jackson and Rafer Alston.

Preach on. Some people act like Van Stumpy had nothing to do with our crappy ass roster.

And then if we do have talent (Bonzi) he fails to coexist with em, or if we have potential (Vmac) he fails to give them a proper chance.

Van Gundy and Rafer were bigger mistakes then Pippen.

People used to tell me that I had a lot in common with Gumby:

    1) We are both bald
    2) We both love basketball
    3) We are both inflexible people

Whoa, wait a minute. I have learned to be more flexible in this past year (I had to because I am married :p ;) ). We can't say the same for Gumby or as 03 calls him "Jeff Van r****d"! :D

That headline or title "Alston All Rockets Need At Point Guard" - is that referencing a thread on the BBS or a story in the Chronicle or something else?

An article John Lopez wrote for the Chronicle, or maybe it was in his blog? Regardless, that was the title

Why Rafer should be frustrated right now:

I think its pretty obvious that the three guard additions of Mike James, Aaron Brooks, and Steve Francis in this offseason are primary reasons why Rafer could be frustrated now and are likely reasons for his recent trouble with the law.

...But lets go back to last offseason. Remember that the Rockets were also looking to replace Rafer at that time. However, that plan didn't work out when Mike James decided to go to Minnesota. At that point, Rafer sought the opportunity to elevate his game, primarily trying to become a better outside shooter. Jeff Van Gundy also was trying to make Rafer into a "steady point guard" and a give him a bigger leadership role on the team. So, last offseason, Rafer put a lot into being a better contributor on this team, to become a better 3-point shooter and a steady point guard. He also tried to add a floater to his game. However, when the season started and steadily progressed, he became the popular target of criticism by the fans. Instead of being a good three point shooter, he was portrayed as an erratic shooter. Instead of being a steady point guard, he was unfairly blamed for many losses over the course of the season. Overall, Rafer became the most disliked player on the team.

So...after high hopes and dedicated hard work to have a career season on the Rockets, Rafer's the only product of last season was heavy criticism from fans and an active search by the organization to replace him. His 150+ 3-point makes went unnoticed and he rarely got credit for any of his other good qualities. With a mix of underachievement as well as being underappreciated by others, there should be no doubt that last season's events alone should cause Rafer's frustration.

In my opinion, Rafer could still be solid contributor on this team. Being a starter last year was a bad fit for him, but I think he can be a perfect back-up point guard. Of course, I doubt his motivation now considering his behavior and discouraged attitude. I think we should start the season with him on the roster and see how everything goes from there, whether to keep him, trade him, or waive him.
