Francis's intercepted pass is all the proof we need to look for a TRUE PG

6 asst and 6 to's hardly means that you're running the team good. The team with the most to's and worst shooting% had 24 asst and 10 to's. What happened to a zone or some pressure defense up the court?

There are - but Francis had migraines meaning that he played sporadically and ineffectually.

Wait a second - how do we have one of the top 5 lineups in the NBA?
And if you think that we have a 'top 5' lineup, then why on earth do you want to change that lineup - shouldn't your blame be focussed on the players inabliity to play hard and not on their ability to play?

And Magic doesn't really count as a pure point - the guy played a finals game at center - if anything he (and Scottie Pippen) are a testament to a versatile point that can contribute in a number of ways to help the team win. It is definitely unfair to use them to argue for the acquisition of an Andre Miller/ Avery Johnson type of guard - those guards are in no way similar!

I think there are the 'what if' games for every team; I agree that we lost a lot of those games due to inexperience - but that's what you get with a young team... I think our only real difference is that I'm willing to put up with that heartache in the growing stages and still put my hope in the fact that they will be playing basketball in the post-season (where anything can happen!).

I'm OK with the loss. Lots of positives came out of this. Most of all, MoT had a huge game right before the break, which means we may have our 13pts, 5 reb, 50% shooting MoT back for the rest of the season. That kind of consistency from any of our F's, and we'll be a force. Also, don't disregard the 5 days rest Yao will have. Oh, and Rice is coming back. If he comes off the bench, that would be great.

If MoT continues his play for a few games after the Break, then start him and Posey, then bring Rice and Griff off the bench.

We DO, however, need someone experienced to play backup PG. Someone LIKE Avery Johnson. Obviously, he's not going to leave the Mavs, so maybe Eric Snow? We can make him the only Guard off the bench, and he'd get 25-30 minutes a night. EVEN if he doesn't influence Francis to improve, that's replacing 25 boneheaded minutes with 25 efficient, smart minutes.

Antonio Daniels is available. Don't know much about him though, is he any good with low TO's?

How about Mobley for Steve Smith, then we split time at SG between Posey and Smith?

And gosh, why don't we just vastly improve the Spurs the next 5-8 years. You do know the one thing that would get the Spurs to have a decent shot at the title this year and the next few is a legit 2nd offensive option to make TD double & triple teams less effective. The fact Mobley would do this and much improve their peremiter shooting & wing quickness would only make them much more formidable.

oh my lord, are you kidding me? get antonio daniels? he can't play point guard nor shooting guard that is why he's available. dumped by the GRIZZLIES, spurs, soon by blazers, the guy really can't play.

worsts, you suggest trading mobley for steve smith, a 50 years old fragile guard. have you ever wondered why he's playing behind stephen jackson??

I need to go back to my cave? You're the one who apparently didn't even understand his own statement. Let me remind you, the title of the thread is "Francis's intercepted pass is all the proof we need to look for a TRUE PG." You said it was all the proof we needed. One play. That's it. Then you reply by telling that your logic is that he has been consistently getting 5,6 and 7 turnovers a game? Perhaps I'm going out on a limb here, but that probably spans a length of time greater than one play. I don't necessarily disagree with the idea behind your post, I just didn't like the poor title.

    Got it, brother?

maybe the rockets can tank the rest of the season, somehow defy odds and get the first pick again, and pray that TJ Ford leaves early. Being a Dec. 2002 Texas grad, I had the fortune to watch TJ every home game last year. His main goal is to win, whether that means scoring or passing. In fact, he is happier passing the basketball and getting his teammates involved. I'm not cracking down on Francis, he's a great ballplayer, but not for the system we need.

Mark Jackson, on his very best day, way back in his prime, with the basketball gods shining down on him from above, would have never been accurately described as decent defender. My grandma could score on him, and she's been dead for 10 years...

I agree. So that we can showcase him for a trade.

Fool's gold, take another look. Please pay no attention to MoT performance. Yes I am happy for him but he was playing a rookie all night and I am still having nightmares of Duncan and EG royally schooling him. He is no more than a backup.

MoT - 4/7 FT's and 5 rebs in 33 mins. Ah boy, it is the little things, the little things.

If TJ Ford would declare himself available for the draft, he won't be passed beyond 5th overall first round pick. So that means we still cannot get him. I love TJ Ford, but he will be too high a pick for the Rockets any near time in the future.

I just thought i would add this quote I saw in the Chonicle this morning (2/7/03)

    Francis lobbies

A year ago, Rockets guard Steve Francis said he really did not care how or how often he was used in the All-Star Game. Starting was enough of a thrill and perhaps a surprise. But this season he hopes to play a more significant role than a year ago, when he made one of eight shots.

On his way off the court last week after the Rockets played Sacramento, Francis spent a few minutes talking with Kings coach Rick Adelman.

"I just told him I didn't play much last season," Francis said. "I told him however much he wants to play me, that's fine. And I said I'd love to play two guard. I didn't do much in the game last season. I want to do better this time."

I had no idea Steve had any interest in playing anything but the point.

Hmm, that's strange. I thought I read it in the hardcopy that he said he wanted to play the point. Did you get that from the internet?

This might deserve its own thread. I saw that quote this morning and nearly fell out of my chair. I guess he changed his mind since draft day.

Really, when you get down to it, maybe Francis said he wanted to play point guard, because he knew Vancover already had a true point guard in Bibby, and because he reallllllly wanted Vancover to trade him. Maybe it was just fuel to the fire to get him traded.
