i never actually said i thought he is less selfish than francis. however, i did say that he would be more willing to take a back seat to yao than "franchise" would. if we are ever going to go anywhere, it is going to be w/ yao, not steve. steve will always want to be THE MAN, even though he has not done anything to show that he deserves to be one.

Wow I saw the season and the stats much differently than you did. Francis in the second half the season especially drastically reduced teh amount of shots he took.

Francis did make his teammates better. A Case in point was the Yao Shaq matchup that the Rockets won. Francis was the leader dishing out assists and scoring. The team froze up near the end of the game, but Steve stepped it up a notch. Then after Steve had been killing the Lakers with his drive, the Lakers tried to counter this by collapsing on Steve. Wisely Steve found a wide open Yao under the basket.

Another way Steve makes is teammates better is Glen Rice. Glen can't create his own shot for sure. But when other teams had to double down on Steve, he was able to kick out to Glen Rice.

Now in the latter example for sure, Steve made his teammate better, but it wasn't by brilliant passing. It was by commanding the double team.

I will be the first to admit that Steve was far from perfect, and could have done a lot of things better, but he had no problem not being the number one guy, or he would have shot more and more, not less. And he did make his teammates better. It might not be in the way you were thinking of, but he did do it.

good example-the yao/shaq matchup is probably steve's best game in history. steve will have his great games where he looks like magic johnson II, but for the most part he has shown little to no improvement as a team leader and floor general since he got here.

as far as rice goes, he is supposed to set up his teammates for easy buckets-its his job as the point guard. a good pg can do this for all his teammates on a consistent basis.

real "franchise" players can carry their team to the playoffs. moochie's aside, we still had a pretty good lineup (ill still point out les's greatest team ever comment) that had no excuse in not making the playoffs.

as the "franchise" player, steve is to be held most accountable for the team's sucesses AND failures.

i guess i just see your half full glass as half empty.
