we won't be bashing him when he sign with us, or when he puts up allstar numbers. People are so ignorant these days. Why do they jump to stupid conclusions with out properly realizing all the details involved.
With Yao on the team Houston will become the most nationally televised team outside of the Lakers if they just play half way decent. All of our players are about to get a lot of exposure that they never counted on including Steve. The Summit is going to be the place to be this season. Thank You Yao Ming!
Get ready for the glare of the national spotlight. Ming and winning will change everything. The press will come Ming-hunting and Steve will get his chance to remind them why we call him Franchise. I believe Steve will step up.
This is one of those arguments where each side is half right. Steve's failure to say anything about Yao Ming -- other than that he wonders how Yao will affect his game -- does not prove Steve isn't a player. Steve is a player. What if proves is that Steve isn't a leader, at least not yet. A leader doesn't wait for the new guy to show up, especially when the new guy is the #1 pick and is coming to a new country amid a hail of dismissive speculation. A leader doesn't focus on how the new guy, the #1 pick, will affect his own game. A leader is confident. He thinks about the new guy's game and how he, the leader, can help bring out the best in the new guy or help the new guy help the team. Steve is still young. When we traded for him, we hoped he would be a player and a leader. So far we're 1 for 2. Give him time.

Just curious, would players in any other team be so quite, definitely not enthusiastic, about their future #1 pick. Yes I know they did say something nice about Yao reportedly after they watched the tape given by Rudy. But thats pretty much all I have heard. It is fine to be the leader if it demands on you. For agrument sake, if Yao turns out to be the go to man, do you really think Steve will step aside so to benefit the whole team. I m not bashing Steve here. My point is legit, something to think about. Sometimes, chemistry is more important than talents.
Actually houston did get international recognition. I'm in indonesia and they loved Dream here. If francis wants national attention then he's going to have to work for it. He's got the dunks and he's got the potential/pizazz.. Ming was a bonus... A new stadium... Bring in the new uniforms then we're set...
IF Steve does not show up at Yao's contract signing ceremony, or at least utter something in those days, then his leadership and maturity will indeed be questionable in many people's mind. Silence IS a way to deliver message, of course everybody knows that. Sometimes I do wish Yao was drafted by NY(edit:not really!! just a little frustration).
He has had more then enough time to learn about Ming, but has anyone heard anything postitive from him concerning Ming? If that is his problem then say so or move on and let us build the winner in Houston that will be done with or without Francis. In his two junior college years, or one year at Maryland and three years in Houston what would he know about a championship or building a winner? The people doing the decision making have two nba championships rings so I have to trust their judgement over a player that has basically done nothing. If Francis wants the Rockets to have national publicity, then he needs to take it upon his own shoulders to make that happen, and I think he will. He has quite a few marketing campaigns going that are getting his face out there. When people see Francis, they think Rockets. Just like when a Jordan commercial came on, people thought Bulls. As for Francis not winning a championship, the guy hasn't had a true chance to do that, but he will very shortly. Francis is the ideal player for the Rockets. IMO you will see him looking to distribute the ball a lot more and take less of his own shots. We have the scorers around him. He was quoted as saying he would rather rack up assists than score all the time. I like his "playing attitude". As for his off the court comments, they do raise some controversy. But get this guy on the court, and he will continue to transform the Rockets into a nationally known product. Francis will not be the only one with public relations in the near future. He is indeed the "francise", and this franchise is on the definite rise.
So much bashing....they same people will turn around and praise franchise when the season rolls around.
Seven years is a long time to be under contract. I doubt many people on this board have been under contract for anything for that long. The man is being careful and will likely make a good choice because he is thinking about it all. P.S. He will play for Houston for his entire career. And if he doesn't........
Some people want attention more than others...If Steve is considering "attention" a factor, it simply makes sense why he is stalling on signing the bottom line...He knows he can get more spotlight in a bigger market (NY, L.A., etc.) ...If the money is similar, than other factors play here..."attention/recognition" being one of them.
I want to see what Steve does after Yao signs ...This will tell me more about Steve than anything else
