You people who would turn this down are not thinking very clearly.

Nothing in the philly papers either. Steven A. Smith writes for the Inquirer/Daily News. He'll bring it up next week if there's anything cooking.

I think this is an AWESOME deal for the rockets.

Barry, Allen AND a 1st round pick! That's a good pick, fellas! We are only giving up underachievers. Guys who are not net winners for us against the competition! This would be the first move of series that could quickly make the Rockets a smart team that passes and shoots.

After that , we still have a LOT of trade assets to use!

    We have the TE
    We have the MCE
    We have Cat and Cato

We'd also have our keeper players - JJ, Boki

We'd have the players we prolly can't trade for much - Pike, AG, Spoon.

We can keep or cut Padgett and Wilks. MJ is gonzo - maybe an assistant coach.

With the TE, MCE, and Cat and Cato to work with , we can pick up a power forward, and maybe a real point.

    Some options -

Cat and Cato for Al Harrington and Pollard

    Cato for Donyell Marshal.

MCE or TE for Stromile Swift. Earl Watson would be good, too.

Cat or TE for Chris Wilcox.

Carlos Arroyo as FA with part of MCE.
Greg Ostertag as FA with part of MCE.

Matt Harpring for Cat, Cato or TE.

Look, theres lots of ways to improve this team. Even the end of the bench guys could be upgraded with Tmo and Braggs. Damon Jones used to be an end of the bench guy, along with Lopez and Arroyo. A little scouting and Franchise out of the way opens up opportunity for a real passer to show something.

Open your minds to the new order, where the ball moves and the shots go down.

That's how you beat a zone - and that's the future of the nba. San Antonio, Minnesota, Indy, Detroit - those guys are going to pack it in vs. Yao, and you have to be able to shoot over them and blow them away.

As players age they will be replaced. Don't worry. Getting the game going is the important part. Imagine the space created for Yao when both guards can shoot lights out. Teams are going to let us shoot - lets get shooters.

Steve/Mo/JJ for Ray Allen/Rashard/Ridnour might make the best sense, if this trade has any basis in fact at all.

Then re-visit Cuttino to Philly for Eric Snow or whatever.

Man, another looooooong off-season. Already in on the trade speculation.

The problem isn't from the Rockets end, that deal just makes no sense for Seattle. Seattle needs big guys. They're looking for a guy that can score in the paint and rebound. Taylor doesn't fit that bill, for that matter, neither would Cato. I can't see them being interested in Taylor for the kind of money that he makes. Even Francis doesn't make much sense for Seattle, they're already overloaded at the guard spots. If they trade Allen, I've got to believe it will be for frontcourt help. Something like the Allen for SAR trade that is circulating. Then they also throw in a lottery pick? No way that happens.

Great idea. Let's trade Yao for Jerome James as well.

And we'd be getting "overachievers" and "winners" in return, right?

exactly, we trade our entire team, for their entire team. on the surface we may have had a better record and got in the playoffs, but you, ZRB, know the truth.

What is everyone's facination with Ray Allen? He's injury prone and on the wrong side of 30. Hell, I can't remember the last coach he hasn't had problems with.

They play video games and see he can hit about any shot on earth and figure he will be great on the rockets.

I appreciate that you posted that, billyzhou. Thanks. I don't think there is anything to it, but that was what you should do when you have a "source". (just an FYI... we usually don't pay attention to sources from other message boards. we pay attention to our own sources, however. ;) )

never mind, you know, rumors are always before official sources.

for example, we knew Harris will become China national team head coach several days before the authority announced the news.

I agree with your concerns but he is only 28 (29 in July). He is only about 1.5 years older than Francis.

Allen has a better asst/to ratio than Francis.

    He's as good a scorer.

    As good a defender.

    As good a rebounder.

    Better size.

    Fits in better with Yao.

Doesn't duplicate Mobley and JJ's skills.

The only thing that Francis has over Allen is his quickness getting to the basket, and that has become more and more useless with the arrival of Ming (clogging the middle) and JJ (doing the same thing as him and Mobley).

Shooting to a C is like French Fries to a burger.
