Cough, gasp, wheeze. How could anyone actually believe that? It's even more bizarre that people are talking about Les taking on another max contract and we're talking about SF? Ridiculous.

The future is not now for this team and the last thing we need to do is to screw-up the team long term.

Having said that I also think Odom would be a huge mistake too.

what? francis couldn't run a fast break to save his life when he was here. for all the talk about him being a running player, he was awful at running the fast break.

Negative. Head and Wes both defend better and are better passers. Both are also better spot up shooters.

I would do that trade instantly...we need offense on this team...Head and Wesley are inconsistent with their shots.

it's still too early to tell on Head.. for his recent slump, he's shown promise in shooting, speed and respectable defense
for a shooter.. not to mention the rare mixture of confidence and eagerness to learn..

Wesley, however, is pretty damn inconsistent this year..
and really really really.. short.. to keep constantly starting
at the two.. and unlike Head, he is not young.. so...

I'd be more inclined for a Francis trade..(aside from the frequently previously stated conditions.. that he not have such a high contract, be only utilized as a penetrating sixth man off the bench, and learn to adapt to the system
without hindering his own abilities. what's the point trying to adapt to the system if he won't be able to produce. all conditions.. which seem rather implausible in materializing)..
if we could keep Rafer and Head out the trade talks..

We'd have to give up something of value to get Steve. SOMEthing.

    Stromile/Wesley/2006 1st rounder and 2nd rounder

Absolutely correct. Francis would actually bring down the running game. The skills that Francis could contribute to this team are:

    1) Defending the fast break. He is still athletic and should be for a while.
    2) Rebounding. None of our power forwards are strong rebounders and he would compensate.
    3) Stop the bleeding. In a few games that we have lost dramatically, I think Francis could have helped stop the bleeding by driving and drawing fouls. Dribblemania can bring both sides of the game to a screeching halt.
    4) Emotion. He behaves like a child most of the time, which can be good on a team that is too reserved. Sometimes lashing out without reason can motivate your team. He definitely has blind confidence in himself which helps.

Well, this whole conversation was pretty far fetched yesterday, and Feigan has the article saying today that there is no way. At least Steve will get to save a little face from his latest ordeal in Orlando knowing that Houston would want him back if they had the chance.

Exactly. You guys have a weird memory. I sure as hell don't remember Francis being a fast breaker type of guy. He's athletic, but he best scores off the dribble. Alston is much better leading the fast break, as the last few games have shown. Putting Francis at 2 guard would be an upgrade over wesley, but it doesn't answer the problem of height at that position.Furthermore, Francis is another one on one player, like yao and tmac. There would be no fluidity to the offense at all. What Houston really needs is either:

A power forward that can score off put backs, rebound and block (what swift was supposed to be)

A Tall shooting guard that can shoot the lights out and hopefully defend(a younger version of vernon maxwell that doesn't spit on fans maybe?)

Both would need to have a fiery personality

Francis has the fire, but he's too immature and hasn't proven he can play well off of others. He just doesn't cut it.

After a lot of mulling over of a Steve/T-Mac/Yao triumverate. I've come to the conclusion that these three could only coexist in the Princeton Offense (either that or a complete ISO offense). We'd lift the responsibility to run the offense out of Steve's hands, by putting it on Yao at the high post. Yao would do hand-offs to Mcgrady for open jumpers, and to Steve for drives to the basket.

Stick Yao at the elbow and Tracy and Steve on the same side. Have Tracy give Steve a back-pick, and let Yao have the option of passing to Tracy popping out for a jumper or Steve diving to the basket. That play could be unstoppable.

And contrary to popular opinion, Steve did cut to the basket when Yao had the ball. Some of Yao's best passes the first two years were sent to a streaking Steve for a layup or dunk. Steve might actually be a good fit in the Princeton offense if he concentrated on attacking the rim instead of shooting jumpers.

Best of all, we'd finally see what Yao would be able to do in a hi/low game. There's always been this notion that Yao can be an incredible player at the high post with his height, vision, and passing skills. Until he's actually put into that role, there will always be questions about wasted potential. He's already got a polished lowpost game. If he added a quality high post game to that, then he could be an offensive beast.

not a good idea, because Francis loves to catch and hold as opposed to dive at the basket. There haven't been many times where our team moves to the goal as opposed to move away from it.

I could be wrong, but in order to have the motion offense you speak of, we'd have to get a new coach. Because the only motion we have on offense is letting tracy come off 2 screens, catch, face up, and pop.

I haven't seen move dive to the hoop much or well enough to warrant that this is an easy trait for him to learn. I see Tmac and Yao capable of learning it though.

You all have to understand, a player is differnet on EVERY TEAM. If we transformed our offense to fast pace Francis could easily adapt. Steve Nash didn't get the ball down so quickly until he was in Phoenix... i am a huge Steve Nash fan and in Dallas he barley ever did that until he got to Phoenix... Francis can adapt

I love Francis who is still one of my favourite NBA players. But no, I don't believe he will ever be a Rocket again.

Steve Francis is not a Point Guard Playmaker
Steve Francis is not tall enough to play the Shooting Guard.
Steve Francis is a poor defensive player.
JVG would not want him on the team.
    Steve Francis dribbles too much
Steve Francis is not a team player.
    Steve Francis is overpaid

Why would anyone in their right mind want to bring him back?

here's to hoping francis sustains a career-ending injury tonight, and maybe - just maybe - this incredibly assinine and r****ded topic can be buried once and for all.

Why in the hell would you hope someone to get a career-ending injury, especially for ex-Rockets who has played with us wholeheartedly before? You should be ashamed of yourself

    Desperate people do desperate things?

I suppose we're hoping that Steve would be so happy to return to Houston that he wouldn't mind playing off the ball and would contribute by attacking the basket, which our bad-back superstar is reluctant to do.

I wouldn't mind getting Steve's fire and rebounding prowess, but we would probably have to engineer two trades, the second involving Rafer (probably), to bring us a taller 2.

The idea being that Tracy and Steve would bring the ball up the floor.
