    Francis, photographer tangle
    Magic star denies kicking allegation

    By DANNY O'NEIL
    SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER

Orlando Magic guard Steve Francis allegedly kicked a courtside photographer in the fourth quarter of last night's game at KeyArena.

Francis denied it after the game, but photographer Jeff Reinking said that he was kicked by Francis, who had fallen on top of Reinking on the baseline beneath the Magic's basket with 8:49 left in the game. Reinking spoke with an NBA security official, Robert Sale, who was making a report of the incident.

"I fell back, couldn't get away from him," Reinking was heard telling the league official. "Then he kicked me."

The play happened in the fourth minute of the fourth period. Francis had attempted a layup, which was blocked by Sonics forward Rashard Lewis. Francis fell out of bounds and his legs landed on Reinking, a courtside photographer for the NBA who was seated on the baseline beneath the basket.

"I just put my hand to move his leg and protect myself like I've done 100 times before," Reinking said.

It was after Francis had landed that he kicked him Reinking. Reinking said he remembered just one "bang" from a kick though it appeared Francis may have used both feet.

Referee Bob Delaney came over to Reinking after the play to make sure he was OK. Delaney also told Reinking he would probably be asked to fill out an incident report.

Francis was asked about the incident after the game in the locker room, although a team public-relations spokesman had conferred with Francis before he spoke.

"He threw my legs down, man," Francis said. "That was it."

Francis was then asked if he kicked the photographer.

"No," Francis said. "Uh-uh. I don't know what happened."

Francis was booed by the crowd the next time he touched the ball as plenty of people saw the incident.

For some reason, no one else even seems interested.

Lord, I hope this is not a self-fulfilling prophesy. I love Stevie; he just needs to chill the f*** out. He could be a top 10 of his time and a hall of famer.

    Stevie- wise up!

I don't care how the Francis lovers want to spin it: he's a punk who's wasting his talent.

    Grow up, Steve.

That is funny; I love Stevie in large part because of his talent. Damn him for screwing up. He manipulated his way to the Rockets, but that time is over. Nut up, Stevie!

All the same, does the photographer really need to fill out an incident report. First of all, he needs to be a man. Even if Francis kicked him who cares. Why are you filling out an incident report. Is he a wussy or a man. But second, he has to know that he's so close to the action, that he's partly responsible for Francis frustration, I mean it doesn't take a genius to know that those guys are partly at fault for being so close to the action. I'm sure he would feel the same way as Francis on occasion. So he should be a big enough man to put himself in Francis shoes.

Total bs. Francis didn't have to kick the guy. He filled out the incident report because he was told to. I wasn't as if it were a "police" incident report.

I get pissed when I'm driving, but that doesn't give me the right to ram somebody with my car.

It's turning into a hell of a season over there in Orlando, isnt it? It's amazing how something so promising at the beginning of the year has really turned to complete hell.

Exactly. I like Francis and will defend his play when I think it's deserved, but lately he's been pathetic and the worst part about it is that he's bringing a whole team down with him.

Let him sit out the rest of the season, he needs some time away.

Oh yeah, he better start packing.
