Is there still hope that Francis can make the team say Finley or one of the guards are unable to play due to injury that might happen from now til all start game? what happens in that situation?

I have no problem with Rahim and Jamison being excluded from this team b/c they are not leading their teams to wins. This should not simply be a statistical deal and team record should play a part in it. Steve Francis has led the Rockets to a .500 season thus far despite the thin frontline the Rockets have. Rahim and Jamison have not led their teams anywhere except another top 5 selection.

This just sucks. What the hell do Franchise & Cat have to do to get selected? Average 75 points a game? Dish out 25 assists a game?

No wonder the NBA has been losing fans lately. I certainly won't be watching the "All-Star" game!

I think it's a conspiracy by the league. I may be paranoid, but I think they left him off because they needed a marketable player to keep the success of their new rookie/sophomore game going. I know it was the coaches who did the voting, but maybe the league "offered" their suggestions. Hey, its an idea. The only hope now, is that the undeserving Karl Malone drops out of the game and they bring Steve in.

The West should send two all-star teams, cause I'd take the West's third or fourth stringers over the East's best.

Steve Francis and Dirk Nowitzki were robbed, someone should be arrested for Grand Theft All-Star. NVE and Brandon also had strong cases for the All-Star team, but were the victim of too many good players at their position.

Karl Malone has practically sleepwalked through the first half of the season and I don't even think I should have to explain why David Robinson won't work.

At least Stockton didn't make it, then I would have had to mail the NBA offices a brick and ask them to throw it through their window for their shoddy treatment of Francis and Dirk(but mostly Francis).

I cannot believe Finley(when did he become a guard?) made it over NVE, Stockton, and Franchise. As much as I hate Stockton he does deserve to be there...I'm very surprised the coaches didn't vote for him more. I think Mcdyess/Nowitzki was close, b/c they're both on winning teams. SAR would be there w/ any other team, except maybe the Bulls. Marion will be there starting next year IMO.

Considering Karla will whinge about playing and get miminal minutes in the game Dirk Diggler Nowitzski definitely got shafted the most.

I can't disagree with the 4 guards that got in ahead of Steve, the debate is could they have picked a fifth guard instead of another forward????

Calm down guys, next year, Robinson, Malone won't make it, and Steve will be a lock.

but listen to this for a second:

What if the All-Star gane became a small All-Star tournament?

3 teams, 10 players per team. It's not East vs West, it's just the best 30 players in the league, and they all play each other. This way, everyone who deserves it would get the chance they deserve. the coaches would sort out the teams. Wouldn't it be better?
of course it would be shorter, like 30 minutes a game, and 3 quarters (or whatever u wanna call them). the whoever has the most wins is the winner, and an MVP All Star is votes.

sane; good idea. i proposed this idea a few years back : 4 all star teams (1 per division). pacific vs midwest and central vs atlantic on saturday...winners and losers play on sunday...or every year they can switch the saturday matchups. that way 48 guys go (or 40 if you want less guys per team so each plays more) and everyone is happy and its more exciting...more bragging rights.

This is a travesty. There is no way around it. Karl Malone is a joke, always has been a joke, and always will be a joke. Why in holy hell would the NBA want to market him? He is widley recognized as the dirtiest, cheapest player in the game. All he does now is shoot jumpers, and get to the line from ticky-tac, bullsh*t reach-in fouls. That is sick, just sick. Robinson? Robinson? COME ON! He has ZERO game left. If he didn't have Duncan, I doubt he would average double-figure points. I'm sorry, but Steve Francis is a better center than him, and he is a POINT GUARD.
I guess the NBA decided it didn't want the game to be exciting this year. Why would you want to put an explosive high-flying super-scorer and WINNER like Steve on the team, when you could put a few over-aged jump-shooters on the team instead. Nice going NBA. I'll be rooting for the east this year. I hope Steve plays in, and wins the dunk contest, and snubs the sh*t out of the NBA and their moronic coaches. (Rudy excluded)

More than likely, it's just a matter of the coaches feeling that the older players get in over thge younger ones. The coaches know that Steve is going to be a perennial All-Star. This will be the last time for many years that Steve isn't on the team. Same for Nowitzky. For some of the players that were picked ahead of them, this may be their last, or only shot. I know that it's not fair, but that's the way the league works. Ever notice how the rookies don't get the same calls as the veterans do? It will all be resolved next year, so get over it. Actually, this is all Doc and Clutch's fault. If they would come through with some trade info or hints, everyone wouldn't have to whine about this.

Actually Finley did not start at the 2 when Nash was hurt. Eisly started at the 1 Hubert Davis at the 2 and Finley at the 3 with Dirk at the 4. Finley has started almost exclusively at the 3 this year. There were some instances earlier in the year when the Mavs started Najara at PF and Dirk at the 3 that Finley started at the 2. Fact is Finley is a 3 period. So regardless of what they claim Gary Payton is the lone back up guard selected. They may have selected Finley as a 2 but he has no signifigant minutes as a two this year. The whole proccess is bull. I hope Steve sits out the rookie game.

    NugsFan,

great idea that is what i had been thinking too, especially considering the depth in the west the fight for spots next year could be real tough with guys like Marion, Cat, Dirk, Nash, Stev and Reef all valid selections. It would b real easy to pick 2 teams from the two west divisions, although the east would be weak.

i agree he should be in the game but just think he deserved to be in and its only his second year. He has plenty of time to show his stuff in the big boys game when they relize what a mistake they have made

I am stunned and disappointed at the NBA coaches. This is point blank robbery. No way around it. IMO Steve deserved to be a starter. I didn't even think it was debatable whether or not he should be a reserve. Any respect I had for the NBA as a whole I lost today. This is absolutely ridiculous. NO RESPECT WHATSOEVER. Well, all I can say is Steve, you go prove those SOB's how wrong and idiotic they really are by taking us to the playoffs. SHOW THEM!!!
