if you are a point guard, you can't be leading the team in field goal attempt. your #1 job is to run the offense and create open shots for teammates. scoring should be secondary. you have to pick and choose your spot to score. btw, point guards usually plays the most minutes, so they have ample opportunities to shoot the ball. Francis is smarter than moron marbury. SF shares the ball with his teammates in the second half because he knows he is the pg.
Uhh......that is not always the case. Marbury is not a moron. His team is a good team too. But congratulations Steve! You're finally becoming a true point guard!
good info? nice research? or way too much time on your hands, i dont see how people can reply so many times and find out all this information, not just in this thread but in all the threads w/ detailed stats, there is no way i could, but anyway i like it
*lol* A little bit of both, I guess, acejeff. A boring Saturday, didn't have much to do. And I was interested in seeing the progress he's made. I wasn't going to post it, but was like "What the hell?" And I'm like you; I usually don't have the time or patience really to 'research' stats, but ESPN makes it kinda easy to do it, so I did. Thanks, though.
If anyone is interested in looking at stats, drop me an email. I can send you a text file / excel spreadsheet with game-by-game numbers for all players on the team this year. Then you can play about with it to your heart's content.
I made this research a while back, and found it pretty eye-opening. Great job story-teller. I can tell you I made this same research 10 games ago, and the numbers have CONTINUED to improve DRAMATICALLY even in the last 10 games. To expect 9 assists and 2.5 TO's? That's unattainable with today's defenses, zones, and diminishing # of catch and shoot players. But here's a SOLID stat line to expect once Steve is surrounded by a couple of pure shooters: 22 points/ 7.5 assists / 3 TO's But then again, if we get another PG to start with him, we shoudl expect: 24 points/ 5.5 assists / 3 TO's Any of those statlines assuming the circumstances, would be awesome.
I don't like how people describe franchise as being selfish.. okay he shot the ball a fair bit, but he did what the team needed him to do to win.. now hes suddenly got another up-n-coming allstar in his team and he isn't the total focus of this teams scoring.. hes just adjusting his goals and doing yet again what the teams needs him to do to win..
Props to Francis cutting down the TO's while getting more assists, although it's just for a stretch. Meanwhile, why are Francis' points and Fg% left out of the stats comparison?
A stretch is like 10 games or something. This is 40 games Vs. 30 games. I think it's pretty fair to say it's a trend, and that he has improved in this area and shown consistency in sustaining it. If you break it down, it even improves after each 10 games.
I love Stevie... Yeah, we lost last night, but he was on fire... More and more, the complete playa is coming out...
Statistics are almost meaningless over the span of time the original poster gave. About all such means is this: "Francis has been playing well, lately." Perhaps the worst part of the post was when he stated that it wasn't a fluke, because we were well into the second half of the season. Umm... it's been a little over a month since the all-star game. Look deeply at any players career, and you're going to find elevated play for that span of time (and longer). With such a limited amount of time, analyze his play according to what you *see* on the court. If such an improvement is true, it should be obvious by his on-court play. But not statistically. Not yet. If he can continue to put up similar #'s, it will become meaningful in time... but not yet.
wut??? u want our best scorer to score 13ppg??? do u notice that he is STILL having the 2nd best FG% in this team(for dez who actually r playing the game)
