I agree that there should be no effort to deflect responsibility away from Francis, or that JVG was wrong in his schedule making. I think that's ridiculous, but I can understand someone criticising both Steve and JVG at the same time.

To just a small degree, I disagree with your #2 comment. I've heard several times of players being suspended for the vague "conduct detrimental to the team." Nevertheless, I agree that using this reason is like opening a can of worms. You either announce what the player did to reduce speculation or you protect the player by not announcing what they did.....at the expense of the organization. It's definitely a conundrom.

I'm not overly enamored with JVG, but I'd take him over "Stevie Franchise" every day of the week and twice on Sunday. This is getting interesting, but if this team is gonna throw it all away at the lead of Steve Francis, I wish they'd do it in a year when we get to keep our lottery pick.

I would normally be blasting Steve right now, but JVG deserves it. He continually calls out players in the media. JVG is a jackass. If he wants it to stay in the locker room, then it should start with the coach.

Rudy never called out his players, even when one did something soo bad, it prompted him to cut the player during the playoffs of our championship run.

I want to trade Steve for someone with a little more smarts, but I wish it would have happened sooner, so Rudy would still be our coach.

Do you trade him now or let him have his undeserved All Star spot?

why are people still wanting rudy as our coach. Everytime everyone talks about jvg being the new coach, they always said the rockets last year wear the worst displcined, out of control team, and conditoned team in the leauge.

I forgot to mention that JVG could have said Steve missed the team flight so he was suspended. It wasn't important why he missed it, the point is that it was unprofessional and showed a disregard for his teammates, and a real lack of leadership.

Once there is a problem it is the person in the managerial position(coach) who must find a way to deal with it. That managerial decision is within the realm of others to criticize reasonably, as long as they don't try and remove blame or the fact that Steve initially did something wrong.

Can we change the title of this thread because it is awfully misleading.

My understanding is that the first-round pick we owe Utah this year is lottery-protected.

The earlier we can get this sh** straightened out, the earlier can Rockets move on. This team cannot go to playoffs with the max player playing the way he wants to play. What a joke!

Did I mentioned "max" player salary-wise only? It turns out the max player is not MJ, Shaq, Kobe, or even Kidd. He is just a confused baller who never went to playoffs.

    Not really.

"It's out of my mind," he said. "As far as prolonging it, I could care less. I don't have any bad feelings against him. I've still got to play for him, God knows how long. I have no problem with coach at all."

So how is the thread title misleading? What is the difference?

One is "God knows how long I have to play for him", the other one is "I've still got to play for him, God knows how long".

    Come on now.

It leaves out the "I've still got to play for him" part. The way it's phrased in thread title makes it seem like a negative comment. It probably evokes images of him sighing or rolling his eyes.

The way he actually said it is that he has to play for the guy and only god knows how long that will be. He's right isn't he? He could be traded, he could get hurt and never play again, he could not come back when his contract ends, Van Gundy could not comeback when his contract ends, he could quit again, etc.

I took it a different way. I thought he was being very spiritual and philosophical, like someone on a 12-step. Surrender to a higher power! Acknowledge that you cannot see the future! How will you die? God knows. Will you have children? God knows. What was that weird commercial about the mystery basketball player supposed to be about? God knows. How long will you play for Jeff Van Gundy? God knows.

I think he's just reaching for Nirvana...

Okay - rewind. The quote only looks bad, depending on which part you bold. Now try it this way:

I have no problem with coach at all. I've still got to play for him, God knows how long. I don't have any bad feelings against him.

Now as to the part that is not in bold, I don't see the problem with Steve acknowledging the omniscience of God. Any more than when Allen Iverson said that Yao was "a gift from God."

The way he probably meant to say it was "only the Lord knows." In other words, it is out of his control, and he accepts it. Don't forget that the Chronicle article is about Steve and JVD reaching a truce.
