it's great that we've got some new fans because of Yao, but they need to realise this isn't the Yao Ming Rockets. No need to knock anything and everything to do with the team because your favourite player isn't lighting it up.... YET. Patience is a virtue.
Oops, our starting backcourt turns the ball for 7.4 times a game. They "help out", oh no, I mean grant amnesty to their teammates by giving them an assist for a total of 8.2 times a game. Too bad the NBA is not for two men basketball damn it! We would've won 10 straight titles with our gold and plantinum guards in shining armors! Another oops, I just realized that I shouldn't be so "negative". What's wrong with me? I should instead say "on the brighter side, the marketing team has found a better slogan. Instead of watching a 7-6 giant and "Be Part of Something Big", let's watch two guards jacking up shots and be part of something small. Small ball rocks. Small guards win championships!!! Out of dozens of championships two of them are won by a 1-2 combo! Let Yao hang out with his girly interpreter and practice "Wassup" until we got some titles. Here we go!Ha!Ha!! Hahaha!!!"
chillout! b.davis had 6 to tonight and jason terry 7! gran hill 6 to! and then we have big dog who made 6 to also and bobby jackson made 5 to and dished out 3 assist.........so give it a break
Hey genius...before you start declaring everybody as wrong, you may wish to make sure you have the facts right. The guys you listed all ran the offense, but they were NOT the first shooting option. Thomas especially was known for his ability to find an open shooter to pass to. Bottom line: When your PG is your leading scorer it usually means trouble.
Panda, forenzi, windandsea, I respect the frustration, but do you really want to see the following instead: Yao 16 minutes 6 pts 5 reb 2 ast 2 block 4 TOs 6 fouls & rockets lose? Seriously, until a little more acclimation, that's what we would be talking about if we extrapolate his numbers. That's a sure fire recipe to ruin the guy's confidence and make his teammates resent him!
I didn't say everyone was wrong, I said you were wrong Refman and you still are. The Pistons have a similar team to ours this year and just because Isiah found open men and racked up assists, it doesn't mean he wasn't the focal point of the offense. Also, I appreciate the genius gesture, but would never claim to be one.
ummmm...just in case you didn't notice...with stevie playing major minutes and yao not playing any minutes, WE HAVE BEEN A LOTTERY TEAM FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW!
I disagree....Isiah was NOT the focal point of the offense...not at all...not any more than John Stockton was for the Jazz, in that the offense ran through him. But the offense wasn't geared around Thomas getting shots. It simply wasn't. I was a HUGE Detroit Pistons fan back in the late 80's and early 90's...mostly because they played a team offense that I LOVED! That and the fact that they didn't mind playing defense. No Piston player averaged even 20 ppg during the championship runs, if my memory serves correct. That's a far cry from having our starting backcourt averaging over 50 ppg...or having our point guard average over 30 ppg. A far cry...I see very few similarities between the Detroit Pistons back-to-back champs and the current Rockets, three-guard offense, notwithstanding.
Hey genius...before you start declaring everybody as wrong, you may wish to make sure you have the facts right. The guys you listed all ran the offense, but they were NOT the first shooting option. Thomas especially was known for his ability to find an open shooter to pass to Interesting opinion. Who would you say was Detroit's first option on offense, then? Here's the Piston's shot attempts from their last championship (89-90) Thomas 1322 attempts 81 games Dumars 1058 attempts 75 games Edwards 928 attempts 82 games Aguirre 898 attempts 78 games Laimbeer 785 attempts 81 games Johnson 775 attempts 82 games Rodman 496 attempts 82 games Salley 408 attempts 82 games
No Pun but, isn't it funny how these chinese fans such as Windandsea, who have been saying how much the guards in the Chinese NT sucked. Now when Yao is playing with arguably Francis (3rd best PG) and Mobley (top 15 SG) we find complaints about them. Right now, Ming is not dominating (obviously) because he is not ready. That topic has been run into the ground. So I say the way we are playing right now is fine until a third option (Ming) is available. I wish, even more then you, for Ming to be fitting in and getting the ball alot more, seeing more action. But in the end, it's the "win" that counts. And if I'm not getting wins, I am depressed, stressed, angry and start complaining as well. What "Be apart of something BIG" is meant to mean, is the start of the new era. The start of the Rockets getting back into the play-offs. The change of the Rockets into a different style, eventually(in the near future). To whittness the change from "The Mobley and Francis show!" to "The Ming, Mobley, Griffin and Francis' Rockets show!" BELIEVE IT! It's going to happen!
You're just mad because your guy Ming was such a turnover machine for China, you know he could lead the NBA if he got enough touches.
I never said "much" about how suck the Chinese guards were. But that doesn't mean they are good. I didn't complain about the guards of Rockets. On the contrary, I think they are very good. They are so good that Ming will not get many touchs in the game. Because they can score by themselves. I agree.
Call it fools gold just like last yr. I do like the way the rockets are playing defense. but once they play good western conf teams, the oppositions wil zone or double francis and since the rest of the team isn't ready for the ball, i think the rockets will hit one of those slides. I try o remain hopeful, but when you're pg and sg is taking 50shots a game, its hard to win like that in the west.
how many waaahin' times i gotta tell you fools, be part of something big is an nba marketing plan. the rockets did not come up wit dat!! the bull use it too!!!! damn, yall just dont listen.... steve francis is going to lead this team to the championships, just watch.....damn hata's....
Yao doesn't have to get 30 minutes a game, I agree he's not ready to take that kind of role. However, I expect him getting consistent minutes. Not 24 minutes then 7 minutes the next game. Not on a performance basis. That way he doesn't have to worry about foul troubles or missing a shot limiting his playing time. No more "oh sh*t I got one foul and the coach is gonna pull me out". I'd also like to see Yao getting about 18 minutes a game. Something that's not luxurious for a NO.1 pick. If Rudy isn't committed to develop Yao this year, why not just put him on the IR and play Collier. Get him some rest and be more accustomed to everything. A fresh and assertive Yao is what the Rockets need. Not a hesitating, no confidence 7-6 stick. Now to Francis and Mobley, you all can hail the great guard combo all you want. All I want to say is, basketball is a five man show. 8.2 apg and 7.4 tpg from the two guards isn't going to cut it, not to the trophy, but to the grave of collective efforts. Unless the Rockets consistently clicks on every cylinder, something I've not seen in a long while, they are simply not going far. Like always we'll feel good after beating some crappy teams, only to be dismayed after getting our a$$ whooped by the elites. If you think it's foolish to criticize, think about if it's foolish to want to see some disciplined and collective team basketball.
Steve's turnovers don't bother me as much as the fact Cuttino is also on that list with ass/to of 0.8.
