I'd do it everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. I like Stevie, but we need veteran leadership, Kidd is everything we need.
Ummm...what game were you watching? As far as I can tell, in 82 games this year, Yao got 2 fast break opportunities. First, his breakout game against the Lakers, which he finished with a dunk and a foul, and mroe recently against Seattle, where Steve (I think) hit him as a trailer coming down the middle, he went for the dunk, and got fouled. Wait, there was a third time at the end of that Cavs game in Cleveland, but that's right, Steve couldn't get the pass high enough. I contend that (a) Yao can finish fine on the break; (b) Yao also makes the perfect compliment in the halfcourt to Kidd's running game and (c) with Kidd and Yao as our two main players we'd have a super-smart team, which, to me, is very important. Never mind the fact that Kidd would make everyone else more dangerous. Cat is a solid finisher on the break (not a good break runner, but a good finisher), Taylor loves to dunk on the braek, Posey runs the break like a gazelle, Griffin, while no K-Mart, would be solid.
my First Choice is a PF who can shot a jump shoot. better if can pass. it's perfect compliment to Yao , just dump the ball to these two big guy. let them dominate the paint or pass out for open shoots
Kidd is a cerebral player who just had his most impressive offensive season of his career at 30. He is 4 years older, but honestly he could be better at 38 than Francis will be at 34. I would be for it but it would be awfully difficult because Francis is a BYC player until summer of 04--another team would have to get involved just to suck up salary. The more I think about, damn the BYC complication, I say pursue it. If NJ is going to lose Kidd for nothing Francis is an awefully dynamic and fan friendly player to plug in. Maybe we even get NJ to have to put in some of the extra anti for the 3rd team involved if they are desperate—but even if it is us with the extra (Griffin or Mo or Cato) so be it. HP I could be wrong but I think because Kidd is 30 now the salary max is limited for him resigning with NJ or with a S & T—I think he can only make like 5 mill more over the life of the contract by not signing a strait FA max contract. Given taxes—that really makes SA competitive financially regardless of NJ actions. Of course the best financial deal would be a max deal with a S & T to Houston!
DS, no. Kidd can sign a 7yr contract only via SnT. Via FAncy, he can only sign a 6. Thus, a SnT gives him much (much) more money. You are talking about Cap Acceleration. In otherwords, how their salary over a long contract counts towards team salary. This is to prevent loop holes where you sign an old guy for 5 yrs, when you know he is only going to play 2, as a way to spread his salary over 5, rather than bunch it for the 2 reasonable years he's going to play. This has nothing to do with Kidd making more money via Larry Bird rights vs FAncy.
I'm sorry, if you beat up your pregnant wife on multiple occasions, there should be no place in the NBA for you. I wouldn't trade Tito for Kidd.
btw: this thread should be called... What Would Red Auerbach Do? ....like Red would say...hmm, my best player can't get me to the playoffs, so maybe if I toss Mobley to the curb...that will get us over the hump. no...Red would go out and get Kidd. Who disputes that?
My first post ever 3 months ago,I was the first to bring this up and was chastised. Now everyone wants to do it but I changed my mind. NEVER lose rice for another 30+ player. Id rather hold our chips(money) for another year, and sign BRAND outright in summer of 2004 when his 1 year deal with clipps is over. But francis striaght uo for kidd? YES,but not including rice. whats better francis+ brand or kidd+ taylor nuff said.
Kidd is a better point guard than Stevie, but does he make this team better? . Steve right now is a better scorer than Kidd, and that's what this team needs him to be. I do the deal only if it is the first/main part of a total team makeover. j
silentj: This team needs Steve to be a scorer because he's not particulary good (yet at least) at getting guys the ball in their sweet spots. Kidd would be. Now. We're not without scorers and shooters -- we're without a system (or a floor leader - take your pick) that gives them the best opportunity to utilize their talents. p.s. Love your signature. For the obvious reasons.
You are probably right, I just remember reading a column that said since Kidd will be 30 the contract he will sign had to be adjusted down for a 7 year deal. And that the few months age difference between when Webber signed his contract last year and when Kidd will be able to this offseason ends up making a big difference in their overall contract size and reduced the overall contract difference from signing with his current team relative to a max strait FA contract. I think in Webbers case the difference was like 15 mil--the article said for Kidd it would be less than half that. It sounds the article missed the distinction of what Cap Acceleration does to the team that uses it--not the older player receiving the contract. Again, I am all for looking into a PG swap. Kidd may be 30, but given the nature of his game (and how his shooting continues to get better) and seeing how long Stockton has been at least modestly productive also with a more cerebral game--I am not sure Kidd won't be effective in the league just as long as Steve despite their 4 years difference. Payton looks like he will be a very good player until at least 37 or 38 as well, and Derrick Harper and Terry Porter were relatively quality players until close to 40 too. However, once Steve's athleticism slows I think he will have less to hold on to and maintain his game as the rest of these guys. I'd even be tempted to go for Payton using Mobley + Mo or Cato as the base--but then you really are gunning for a 3-year, or at most 4-year window with Payton at the helm. But that wouldn't be too bad because when he is done or becomes a back-up player maybe Francis has learned from him how to run the team better. Maybe something like this is doable because I can't think the soon to be 35 year old Payton fits in with Milwalkee's medium to long term plans.
YES. PAYTON. I don't care if he has an attitude. He would be lovely. And Francis could learn from him. PAYTON. GARY PAYTON. GoLD GLOVE. Brings motivation and defense. Really. BUT... why would they want Mobley? They already have Michael Redd an Desmond Mason. BUT I KNOW THEY WANT CATO. Bucks are in desperate need of a quality center who can block shots and rebound. He would be perfect for them. Mo Taylor would be good for them too because he would give them more inside post offense. I think we would have to add a 2nd round pick or something. BUT YES. I WOULD DO IT. Gary Payton and Steve Francis...and James Posey on the fast break. With Eddie Griffin...and Yao Ming! Wow I wish...
