As usual people are blowing Francis' comments way out of proportion. The guy did win A prize. It wasn't the prize, but he is a prize winner. People think his game is off because his scoring is down. He's passing better, using better judgement, shutting down all star PG's with his defense, and improving all the time. The PG's for the the Jazz, and the Trailblazers burn Stevie once, and he's smart enough to not let it happen again. The comments don't reflect anything except Stevie's amazement at people like those on the board that over-react, and his intrest in the Astros getting some quality players.
I'm going to get some of you guys some dates. You are really angry fans, better yet, we'll just go straight to the strip club. You guys have some stress you need to relieve. Calm down.
It could be just the culture difference, but I bet Yao would never said "I'm a prize-winner", or something along the line. He would probably say: "We have a pretty good basketball team; we have a pretty good football team; now...". I don't think Steve Francis was actually meant it (to be very selfish), but Michael Jordan didn't talk how great he was. Let other people say it, Steve!
I heard some of these quotes last night or this morning on the news and everyone was laughing, Steve too. It sounded and looked like he was just having fun with the reporters and himself. It's no big deal in my opinion.
Look at how the team plays with out him. With him, winning record, without him, deep deep into to lottery (enough pingpong to get a first pick).
I was thinking in the context of TEAM. He has done little to advance the Rockets fortunes or lift the spirits of the fans like us except a few "highlight dunks." I want more. I don't want a "hotdog," I want Moses! Playoffs, division titles, championships, those are the "real" prizes.
Its funny that people say I am bashing steve and overreacting when all i wanted to do was see what everyone else though. STeve is a good point guard..hes still immatrure and makes rookie type mistakes...
Prize winning? Someone needs to tell Steve that being in the NBA Lottery is not something you brag about.
It's no doubt Francis is talking about David Carr. After looking at both David Carr & Francis in action. Carr is going to have much bigger impact for his Franchise. Houston got a good corner stone in Carr, but not Francis.
The point is, it doesn't matter. Do you even undrstand what he's doing wrong? Why people say that he's not smart? Why he make turnovers? Why he's not good at on the fast break? If you can't see that, you are blind.
damn this is stupid. i guess steve's not allowed to play around? i am gonna chalk these responses up to the possibility that they are from forigners not familiar with this type of joking around. i hope.
even if the intention of this thread wasn't to bash steve bringing up absolutely meaningless quotes and asking if steve has an ego sure will open up alot of things. i can't there's a 2 page thread questioning those quotes. as for oswalt vs. pettite, c'mon, roy is easily the ace. i'd gladly put him up for one game against any pitcher in the league. even after coming off the injury last year he was flat-out nasty. two years ago he was completely healthy for a whole season, that and the fact that his injury was not a result of pitching makes me atleast positive that his career can be very good. hopefully offseason surgery will end the groin problem for good.
You are entitled to your opinion of Steve, but this argument has zero to do with STeve's quote. Steve's quote said prize winning. His quote was accurate. Whether or not the team is better or not bettter is a different argument. That's not what Steve's quote was. Stick to the point.
0 to do with the quotes Francis made in the article. Francis didn't mention playoff experience. He mentioned prize winners. Francis did win a prize and their is no denying it. If you want to whine and cry and about Francis not having any playoff experience then do it in another thread. That has zero to do with this thread.
yeah, so SF is probly selfish. so what? as long as we keep getting better, he can say whatever he wants.
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2289400 Francis is more deluded than I thought he was. All-Star totals Rockets guard Steve Francis and center Yao Ming are second in the first update of All-Star voting, putting Francis in position to start his third All-Star Game in four seasons. "That's good, real good," Francis said. "Hopefully I can continue to keep that going." That said, Francis said he wouldn't necessarily mind not getting voted onto the All-Star Game roster by the fans if that meant being selected by the coaches. Francis leads Gary Payton by just 38,635 votes. Shaquille O'Neal leads Yao by 120,317 votes. "This year, I think I have a better chance of getting voted in by the coaches because I think my defense is a lot better," Francis said. "That's what Rudy (Tomjanovich) told me. He told me the reason he thought I could never get voted in by the coaches and didn't get voted in my second year was because my defense wasn't good. "It's good enough now that hopefully people will start respecting it." He actually thinks he plays good defense??? I guess he doesn't notice that he's getting lit up by the opposing point guards night in and night out!
No, no, no- what he meant was that he was the prize winner in that he was our representative at the draft when we snagged the #1 pick. That's what he meant by winning the prize. #2 is not a prize winner.
Do you guys watch the game and compare to last season? Steve isn't getting the same sort of shots he was getting for the last few years. The JVG offense sucks for Steve, he needs to watch those tapes alittle more and actually realise that he is not using Francis the right way. I had all my hopes of JVG turning our offense around but it's backfired, he can't even help Yao with his assistant Ewing . How many 100+ point games have we had this year? 1? 2? The only bright spot is Cuttino catching fire lately! I can tell you, if JVG is gonna settle for this offense the actual fans of Steve and co are gonna have a long season...
