Actually I think getting a tie for ROY may work out pretty good. If Francis had won the thing outright you would have a lot of NBA fans finding faults with him and saying he didn't deserve it, etc. However with a tie you usually don't get that much criticism and in fact I think you get people honestly debating each players strengths...

I'm not upset with it but I seriously wonder what the odds are of this being an exact tie... I mean I think it's highly likely Francis and Brand were either #1 or #2 on just about every ballet.... but an exact tie?

I wonder if one player won by a few votes and someone tallying the votes pulled a "YO! Look over there.... it's Elvis!"

    How about this:

Perhaps in cases in which there isn't an outright majority, the NBA gays more leeway in selecting the candidate. I can't imagine Odom, Szcerbiak, Marion or Miller garnering *many* votes, but they could have prevented an absolute majority by Brand or Francis.

I'm not sure about this... but it's possible... does anyone know the rules for determining the winner?

Sherlock, I wouldn't call winning co-ROY punishment for pouting in Vancouver. If he had stayed in Vancouver, would he have won anything at all? Would he have played as well there as he did here? We'll never know, but personally, I doubt it.

Thanks Clutch, I've been listening the ESPN radio alot lately and just got lucky.

Speaking of ESPN radio, I was listening to a local Chicago show, the Huge show, and the guys on there were totally dawgin Francis. I generally like what these guys have to say, but this was a bit annoying. Chicago sports fans are pretty gung hoe about there teams getting props. Based on the reaction from the BBS and what my friends in Houston are saying, I think the Houston fans are pretty understanding to the decision. I mean, these guys were both outstanding.

Anyway, just thought I'd post some info on the Chicago reaction to the decision.

I think bronxfan was right on. Had this gone any other way, people would have been even more upset and questioned the guy who won.

I say the NBA pussed out!!

Sorry, I know alot of ya'll are gonne disagree, but I put Brand in the same category as Odom...really good players on really bad teams. It's easy for them to rise to the top because the rest of their team sucked so bad.

Francis not only was a really good player on what was a bad team, he rose to the top and made his team better...something that neither Odom, nor co-ROY Brand did.

While I am happy that Steve was recognized for being a top rookie, I still think he should have been THE top rookie. I think we all saw this one coming though.

I was watching the Heat/Knicks game last night and during halftime of the game, the commentators went into the news of the split for rookie of the year. Both commenatators started to diss Francis, I was getting highly perturbed with their discussion.

They're main point was that Brand led in pretty much every statistical category and that Francis had no right to share the honor. Though, as Rocket fans, we know Francis was going up against awesome veterans and more competition at point than Brand was facing at C/PF. Now, I pose the question, if it had to be out right, who would you believe is MOST deserving of the accolade? No biasesness here. BE FAIR.

I'll have to take Francis over Brand, my reasons are above...

Juan Valdez: I wasn't saying that winning the co-ROY was punishment, nor do I believe he would have won anything if he had gone to Vancouver. You are certainly right about that.

I was saying that he should have won it outright, without having to share it with Brand. But this was the NBA's, as well as the public's, way of slapping him on the hand for how he handled himself on draft day, mitigating criticism, (as Bronxfan mentioned), yet giving him credit for the class attitude and accomplishments throughout the season, which was nothing short of amazing.

Face it! The Fans are going to argue up and down about this . If the NBA wasnt so soft they would have just let the people vote
