Not just in Sri Lanka. Myanmar too. Even though I believe in a lot of the precepts of Buddhism it always bugs me when people try to portray it as being completely peaceful. The history of Buddhism has been replete with violence. There is a reason why Zen and other sects of Buddhism are very closely associated with martial arts.

Good post and certainly this issue is far more complicated and nuanced than it is portrayed. I would also add how horrible French Colonialism was too in regard to the problems that France.

Unfortunately the world we live in is one where there is a lot of pressure to not just choose sides but to "own" the other side. It seems like a lot of our political and cultural rhetoric is deliberately mocking those who we consider our enemies. There is far less interest. in understanding what the other side thinks or believes than mocking and demonizing them.

Muhammed has killed people. He waged wars.

This is why Muslims are so easily radicalized. This is why Wahhabism was such a huge movement.

I really don't know why people choose to be ignorant on that topic. I know some of you might be Muslim or have friends who are Muslims, but you really can't hide from that truth.

The ancient aliens are probably wondering what happened here when they created this religion

what would happen if the prophet returned this year ? What happens to all the people snapping pictures of him with their iPhones?

That would be oxymoronic. Maybe they destroy all the war machines and greenhouse gas emitters. That would be cool.

people need to ask themselves, why do i care if someone draws a stick figure of someone nobody 'supposedly' knows what they looked like.

people need to step outside their narrow minds and think about the larger picture.
the universe, the planet, the creatures and that we are just creatures.

i do this all the time, especially here.

Back in the ancient times will
These dudes who are angry about cartoons not know that someone thousands of miles away is drawing cartoons?
Will he ride a horse or sail a boat to seek his revenge ? How will he know who drew the cartoons in ancient times ?

is the use of technology today to find who draws cartoons you don’t like ?

Do you think the teacher who was murdered for showing images in a history class — with warning to students who might be offended — did a shitty thing? Should religious sentiment dictate how teachers may teach their subjects, in your view?

The problem with religion is that people never ask why

what's the difference between this and the crusades?

just technology. nobody in the world would know that one teacher in france is drawing a cartoon.
    no internet.
people back in the day didn't have cameras. no tmz.

whatever reasons, one religious group will not agree with another religious group
    even inside their own groups

    Sunni vs Shiite Muslims
    Catholics vs Protestants

if you look at it from a bigger picture, it's just human vs human, there's nothing in the dna that tells you what religion they belong to, it's all in their heads

how's humanity going to move forward when the planet will run out of resources? they have to be able to travel and migrate to new worlds with resources for life

That's why science and technology is the only way forward

I thought it was a very thoughtful post. Remember, France is the country that bombed Greenpeace.

What do you propose (because honestly this gets a little scary, given recent history and all) Europe does with its immigrant issue?
