It makes all the difference in the world.

In one case (Islamist terrorists), they are doing it because they are Muslims and because they think that is what their religious ideology is telling them to do. They draw their motivation directly from their religious ideology. Without it, they would not do it.

In the other case (Catholic priests who molest children), they are doing it although they are Christians, knowing full well that their religion is prohibiting them from doing it. Rather than drawing their motivation from some kind of perceived religious call to do this, they do it although they know they shouldn't. Without the religion, they would still want to do it (although it can be argued that the circumstances that are created by the artificial celibacy crap and young adolescents being around sexually frustrated older men create an opportunity).

If you cannot grasp this difference intellectually, I cannot help you.

So you think the radicals are blowing up shyt and killing people strictly because of their religious beliefs... You think that's their only motivation...???

That's the core of their motivation.

All that other stuff - they are poor, they are angry, they have an inferiority complex, etc. etc. - yes, those are all contributing factors, but the common theme of all these attacks around the world is that they are committed "to defend Islam".

Genocide in Africa is never about religion... It's about power. And I'm sure there are people at the top in groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda who want something as well (like power, control, money). If it was all about religion _ the world would be at war with a billion Muslims. Also some Muslims believe they are to stand for justice and attack injustices and a lot of the countries they have attacks in do and or have committed injustices against Muslims and other groups of people.

But what do you suggest be done about it...?

It's odd how they draw that motivation most often in backwards ass, poor areas of the world where violence and war are rampant. There are perhaps a hundred thousand Muslims in Houston, maybe more, but no jihad. It must be the water.

Oh look, it's another thread from a Muslim that seeks to discredit those who are outraged over the Paris tragedy.

I see this same crap all over facebook, mostly from Paki-Americans

why are you friends with those people? and why arent yuo saying something to all of them instead of coming here and telling ppl who think like you? you need to call that BS out and see what they say back. i dont know any moslem ppl but if i did would talk about these things and tell them why theyre wrong for not supporting free speech. you also need to report the ones who write about bad stuff.

Give Islam a pope, a mini-state, and a massive PR budget and see if it doesn't work out with a bit more similarity.

It's more about the business of news, much in the way violence in Israel/Palestine gets headlines whereas other violent events with greater destruction gets page 12. It's complicated and not generally a grand conspiracy or of ill intent as much as editors pushing the stories to the front that are going to sell.

This is also one of my arguments of why state media like BBC/DW/PBS remains important in 2015. They still have to do it remain competitive, but not to the same extent as FOX/SKY/CNN/MSNBC. BBC has been covering Nigeria with plenty of detail.
