This is funny. So based many on the responses here, France should publish a headline that says America hates France ...because some guys on a BBS said so. lol
You can think almost everyone experiences what you did in France, but that doesn't make it so. I've been there several times for varying lengths, and haven't had anything like the experience you described. People(even in Paris) went out of their way to help me. Strangers walked me around neighborhoods showing me good local food places to eat. I think each trip I bumped into two rude people. That's a good ratio. I think most of the bad interactions come from lack of understanding about what is and isn't considered good manners in different situations.
