Thank you rimbaud and CBFC... if Buttbury was any more full of himself, the resulting explosion would be heard here in Austin. This season has been a nightmare for everyone involved with the team and certainly for us, but I'm excited about the offseason and this Fall. I'll shell out my bucks for League Pass again because I'm one of those stupid fans who thinks we will be much better next year. I think Rudy could use one or two more assistant coaches... Dallas could be a good model for that. Remember all the talk about "crazy Don Nelson" being over the hill? Mmmm... what is their record again?

    Crispee,

Yes yes...we know you have season tickets...somehow you think this makes your opinion count more then those of us who buy league pass, and hats, and shirts, and support our team in all ways.

If you think the MAJORITY agree with you, then turn around at the next game and talk to the empty seat next to you...or all around you.

How many games did you move down from the nose bleed to occupy unused better seats? I would think THAT is a better indicator of how the public feels about the team.

Empty seats are a great indicator of what people think...in a city of over 4 million the Rockets can not sell out 17,000 seats. You know why, because most people can not stand to watch this brand of crap basketball.

I personally think this has more to do with the fact that the fans in Houston don't want to spend their money on those high ticket prices for a non-championship caliber basketball team.

    BGM,

It did not bother them when the team was winning and far from championship caliber.

I think the ugly style of game and the perception of the players as selfish and non caring is another factor.

I remember back in 1994 going to a few Rockets games, the crowd was pretty average back then as well, and this was after we started the season off with that wonderful winning streak.

It took the Rockets actually winning the championship to get sellouts.

That's just how it is in Houston...

    BAH!

    I was 12 back then...:D

I remember my mom got Rockets-Bulls tickets so I could see a game with Michael Jordan, of course she didn't realize that Jordan retired that year so it was the Bill Wennington show...:(

The point is Houston fans won't cough up the cash for Rockets games unless they have multiple hall of famers in their starting lineup or they're coming off of a championship...

    12....LOL...

    Well,

Houston has always been fickle, but they love to support a winner, and right now...the Rocks are FAR...from a winner.

As for the Clevland comparison, didnt' they have a better record then us, and beat us 2 times this year.

    Doh !!

    Blastoff,

That was why I only compared Rice to J. Williams. Statistically, Rice was a little higher. 8+ ppg can still be missed. Anyway, the point was that we are not just talking about a healthy Steve...or A healthy Taylor - we are talking about all sorts of crap. I think that that just cause too much instability - all early in the season. If these things had happened later and there had been more chemestry, then I would agree with you 100%. Now I just see your point, but think there should be an asterisk by it. :)

    CBFC,

In one fell swoop you rendered my long post useless.

Don't make me bring up the spectre of the Mother's Day playoff-game non-sellout!

Attendance woes are also a result of the entire league being in a down cycle, the economy cooling off (considerably), and years of apathetic marketing.

I can't begin to tell you how much I disagree with this!! During those years, we at least had the privilege of watching Hakeem become what he became. We saw quadruple doubles..we saw games where he scored over 40 and had over 20 rebounds. The 1989-90 team hustled like crazy..they were one of my faves. That's when Maxwell joined them and was pissed because he got traded for cash. He was in instant sparkplug and the team made the playoffs on the very last day of the season, beating the Jazz ( I was there!). Those teams were interesting, to say the very least, in my opinion. By 1990, a good portion of the future world champs of 94 were already playing for the Rocks, if I remember right.

I'm with Fran, unfortunately. I love this franchise...I was a season ticket holder for a long time. But I find them next to unwatchable today. It is a boring brand of basketball...they do make continual excuses...the comparisons of Mobley to some of the greatest ever are laughable...and once again we fail to make the playoffs in a league that sends more teams to the playoffs than it sends home for the offseason. The franchise is CLEARLY at one of its lowest points. Does that make me less of a fan for saying that??? Certainly not...it's not like I'm bandwagoning some other team while mine is down...I'm disappointed with their play, and I don't see a good future with their current makeup.

Read the post again. It is not about you. It is about how some people love basketball so much, they could root for the Fighting Owls with no complaints. Do you understand that, at all??? Does anyone understand that. If not, I'll start a whole new thread about how watching Crisco go one on one against the BBQ boys could not bore me.

btw: I need no qualifications like "I'm a season ticket holder" to know my basketball opinion is better than yours. :p

As a matter of fact, I was just about ready to reply to your big'un with Jeff's reply to mine...then I read CBFC's

that's so sad. You know, CBFC was smarter by waiting until the 29th post was made so he could be #30....poor rimmy.

Just to clarify, I don't think he called Cato stiff. he said cato bores him. stiffer than a turkey or something. as in being bored stiffer than a turkey by cato. other than that, please keep bashing franny.

also, i just don't think the brand of basketball has even 1/10 the importance of the W column in terms of fans (and especially in houston). when you lose, you aren't in the fans minds and thus apathy sets in. having a more running and gunning offense with the same record wouldn't improve that i don't think (although the tv watching experience might be better). get more wins, boring or not, people think about you more, attendance improves.

Fran you are an absolute idiot. I hate you Fran, you knocked the rocks all season long. First off we are rebuilding. If you want to compare the rockets with another team rebuilding compare them to someone atleast in this decade for example the chicago bulls. Chicago has been rebuilding for years, and the rockets are much better off when compared to them. What i cant stand the most about your article is when you call out francis rudy and cd. I can almost promise that within 2 yrs you franny will hail francis as king. Rudy T is the greatest coach ever, he just did nt have the tools this yr. As for cd, he is going to be hailed as a genius for getting griffin. As for the stuff you are smoking before you write articles, you need to cut down seriously b/c there in no way in hell griffin is the next coming of bullard. A quick question: does n e one know where i can complain to about this article? my blood boils when i read this article

Also quick note to all those people who say noone cares about the rockets, I am going to give a speech in my speech class about why everyone should go to a rockets game. I also need some information on where i can pick up little rockets schedules for next season. I need about 35 of these so i can pass them out to everyone.

I agree with evrything Fran has to say. I am also amazed how easy one can tell this article has just raised people like Jeff's blood pressure 10 times of normal level.
