FoxSports ain't getting the same ol' Rosen

Way back in his first go-round in FoxSports (19xx-20xx), Charley Rosen had as much sheer talent as any other sports writer in the league.

He could critique, analyze, and write backhanded compliments.
He was quick up and down the Celtics jock, especially with their balls in his hands.

He used his cross-over suckfest (going either way) to establish a rhythm for his incredibly lame articles.

He was a dangerous shoot...er, never mind.

He always wrote with great disdain and arrogance.

He was a big prick and a surprisingly not fired early on.

He could even be slightly humorous — mostly with a back-handed compliment (over his dead body).

But that was then.

Nowadays, Charley Rosen is 70(??) years old, has arthritic knees, and is coming off a blighted season and a half with the Celtics. And the holes in his boxers' rear end are more pronounced.

To whit:

His color commentary is faulty in that he is liable to turn his head and lose sight of his man (especially when "watching" scouting videos).

He has trouble defending his lack of basketball knowledge.

He gets caught with his pants down much too frequently and also lingers near the prison showers, which creates poor court balance.

His decision-making in what to publish has become highly questionable.

He also tends to miss any clutch shot he's supposed to see.

And his 'analysis' depends more and more on basketball jargon instead of common sense.

Add up all the past-pluses and present-minuses and it's really unimaginable why FoxSports were willing to spend over $30 to keep his writings.

What, then, can ClutchFans expect from the continuation of Charlie Rosen?

Most importantly, Rosen must bash on every team not named the bulls or Heat or he'll pout and gripe — just as he has since he was hired. This means that the Clutch faithful have to make a full-time commitment to ignoring him. Which means that there's probably no room on the roster for either me or you — both of whom will also prove to be profoundly unhappy should they be forced to read more of his articles. The most harmonious lineup behind Rosen just might be Bill Simmons and Marc Stein (gag). Or perhaps Clutchfans should hedge their bets and hang on to either RealGM or Hoopsw*rld to protect themselves should Rosen falter.

He wasn't THAT bad. His problem (and sort of a general thing with Steve) is that he really isn't all that quick. He broke down defenses through good dribbling and cross-overs not speed. And that applied to his defense as well. He always defended bigger guards pretty well, it was the small quick ones that destroyed him.

on the flip side, Rafer can't guard the bigger variety at all.

yea, i remember the days when he was deadly behind the 3 point arc. Oh how i miss the automatic jumphook over guards that were 2 inches taller than him. let's not forget his lockdown defense while he charged at his opponent with reckless abandon.

I think all most Rockets fans hope for from Francis is that he helps fill out our 12 man roster with players who can compete at an NBA level, which would be a big improvement over the team we've been putting on the floor the last couple of years. We had a lot of trouble going 8 men deep last year.

Any of the Scola, James, Wells or Francis experiments may bust; but if just one of them plays at an almost all-star level, we are going to be way ahead of last year's depth. If more than one of them plays at an almost all star level or one of plays up to the all star level then this team will definitely be badass.

Stevie at a max contact?..you'd probably be very disapponted.
Stevie at 1/2 the MLE?....you'd have to be thrilled.

I actually think it makes sense... I'd think it would be better if we had Alston/MJ and SF3 could reunite with Cat... Unless we get Haslem for Alston. Haha
