I could buy that, except Taveras' road BABIP was still a ridiculous .364. His home BABIP was .380, which is high even considering Coors. Both numbers are likely to come down.

Also, even if you believe your argument to be true, then most of his "improvement" can be traced to Coors Field, and thus inapplicable to the underlying theme of how he could have helped the Astros going forward.

But to make this argument, you're suggesting that a guy that came up at 23 years old and skipped AAA ball (due to necessity, not choice) hasn't and won't improve at all in his career. Is that a particularly reasonable assumption?

He's completed three Major League seasons. His walk rate hasn't appreciably improved. His gap power hasn't improved. His line drive percentage hasn't improved. He's exactly the same player he always was -- the only difference is in 2007, more bloop hits found grass. That's partially by luck, partially by Coors Field.

Could he improve? I suppose it's possible, although I'd think if he were going to see a significant move it would be evident by now. And upon a closer look at the numbers (more than BA and OBP), I don't see that it happened. Maybe it will someday... but I'll deal with that if or when it comes.

oh he's not great, and he certainly wasn't better than either scott or pence last year and likely wont be better than either next year. But he is an adequate player who i feel will improve to be an above average starting centerfielder someday soon. All that considered i still thought the trade was bad at the time (but that was mostly for hirsh and willy being included) but that's a whole nother thread.

K rate has improved every year, which when factored with his high babip should lead to higher sustained avg and obp.

    So ****ing stupid.

Constantly again and again, Luke Scott 500 as everyday starter is never even offered forth as an option.
