Now you have jinxed next season and we will not even make the playoffs. Good to have a coach with still time till the draft. Now I hope the Rockets get good trades or manage to move up the draft.
Let's see what else in store for the soon to be new Rocket's era. I for one can't wait to see what other changes are in store for the team. Go Rockets!!
Ah, I wasn't acting like anything, I was ASKING if he was a sure thing. I am ok with Adelman, I think he is a better coach than JVG for this team, but overall, I would say it was somewhat lateral. But, if he gets us past the first round, then it would have to be a good move, right? DD
for those jvg lovers and those who hate the adelman signing.... understand that adelman is not THE solution to the problems we have. He is only PART of the solution. We obviously need to upgrade a few rotational players on the team. When you ask if adelman will help our bench and help our pg and pf issues, of course not? What the hell kind of question is that? He is part of the solution. I wonder how many of you that wanted to give jeff another chance actually wanted to give david carr another year as well.
none of that matters to the "I secretly want to be a Suns fan" crowd. I blame Sportscenter for this, the infatuation with "free-flowing" "up-tempo" "run and gun" offensive teams that historically dont do jack in the playoffs when it matters. I fully agree with RocketG and mainly so with rocketfan83. we did not improve our coaching position, it was lateral at best. and we STILL have glaring deficiencies in talent that contributed much more to our problems than our coach did. regardless, I will still be the same fan I always am, thats just who I am....but I'm very uneasy about our prospects next year. Morey better have some magic up his sleeves cause we need help (moreso if Adelman intends to institute the style he is known for) I welcome him and wish him the best of luck, we gonna need it.
generalize much? thats a great way to encourage discussion, start out by tryin to insult the people you are talking to. you must have been a star in the debate club. back atcha hoss. FYI I love winning, I love classic basketball, I like defense that does NOT mean that I 1) hate the hiring 2) love any one member of the organization...I am a fan of the team and the game. but hey...go ahed and skip right over those facts when you send one of your scathing barbs my way. Not like I actually give a crap what you think.
For all the Van Gundy lovers (I happened to like him.), remember he said we will have a lot of success here. This was after he was fired. So, he knows we are going in the right direction.
Totally disagree. You had better blame David Stern and his rule changes. Whether any of us like it or not, it's the direction the league is headed. There is no way this Rockets team will do anything playing all defense and no offense. San Antonio one of the greatest defensive teams in this league can play a faster tempo style of basketball because they are a balanced team. This is why I don't consider Adelman a lateral move. He is good for the development of other players besides the starters. Never in the history of time has a coach been so bad on offense that only 4 players scored in a full game. That's mind numbing. This team can at least look to the future and if they had a chance at a player with the talent of a Rudy Gay they wouldn't go in the opposite direction of the league and trade him off for a non athletic spot up shooter. This team needs a balance all around, players, coaching, O and D, and a different mentality. Either they were scared or they were sluggish. Time out for that every other game identifying a problem and never making an adjustment.
the roster could stay exactly the same and i could see a much better season next year. here are the reasons why that is possible: 1.) Bonzi Wells - i'm am almost 100% positive that Adelman could get much more out of Bonzi than Gundy did. he only played 28 games and very few with both Yao and T-Mac. if Bonzi produces even at 80% of what he did in Sacramento, than he is automatically the 3rd option and maybe even the third best player whether he starts or comes off the bench. 2.) Kirk Snyder - it was almost as disappointing how little Gundy could get out of Snyder and his reluctance to use/develop him. 3.) Yao Ming - Yao Ming has so many more offensive gifts than just banging it down low. Adelman will not try to turn Yao into a poor man's Shaq who can hit free throws, but never gets the calls accept for three-second violations and offensive fouls. throw in Dream's training and this could be an MVP year for Yao. 4.) Shane Battier - Shane is another player who was utilized so poorly. his high BB IQ and post game (his offensive game in general) was largely wasted playing Gundy ball. i look for him to play a major part in the new offense. 5.) Tracy McGrady - in a semi-motion offense, T-Mac won't have to rely so much on playmaking as this responsibility will be more evenly divided by all the players on the floor. also this could allow T-Mac to be more like the T-Mac of Orlando. 6.) Rafer - again because of the new offense, Rafer's importance will be lessened and he won't have to play so many minutes which should please someone on the bbs greatly. 7a.) none of that 8 1/2 player rotation crap for the regular season. 7b.) no more free passes for Juwan (and Rafer) and Luther Head. as a brand new coach, he who plays well (no pun intended) plays. 7c.) VSpan/Novak - hopefully, they should get a real chance this season. remember that this is a team that won 52 games despite injuries to 111, as well as having one of the worst offenses in the league (despite having two of the best offensive players in the game) and an overrated defense as shown in the playoffs. the Rockets are still "potentially" one of the best teams in the league. they were just some bad coaching in crunch time of game 7 as well as a defensive rebound away from reaching the WCF (the real finals in the NBA). remember again, for this example i'm assuming that the roster stays exactly the same (which i highly doubt). so yes, i agree with Morey, as i did at the beginning of this season, that this was a 60+ win team putting them right there with Dallas and Phoenix, notwithstanding their disappointing play in the playoffs as well.
well seems like you care since you responded. so that apparently gives you the go ahead to insult my debating skills huh? sorry we aren't as classy as you are bud. you must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed
I think the current roster may have some ingridients for him to work with... certainly Yao and Tracy.. I think Shane can do more, too, especially with cuts to the basket. Juwan is a decent high post passer/shooter. But you still need at least one more perimeter guy who can penetrate and break the defense down and finish or just put the pressure in to tweak the D. Bibby did that pretty well, especially in his youth.. Peja, for all his shooting prowess, does a very decent job going to the basket, you don't average 20 + ppg being just a shooter. Doug Christie's role is actually most like Rafer Alston... good ball handler/passer but tends to stay around the perimeter and isn't a very high % shooter on raw FG%, though fairly decent with the treys. Anyhow... Morely knows this team has needs... hopefully he'll be creative enough to fill it and Les will be willing to pay for it.
man, my predictions the past few months are dead on welcome Adelman, welcome Houston Rockets Championship contender!
