jvg got a team to the finals in a strike shortened season once ewing went down and they went to a faster oriented offense. He only been to the finals once and the conference finals one other time. Thats it. So if youre blaming tracy now, who would you rather have instead of him? There can only be a handful of players. And we got him for francis and mobley. Id do that deal every day.
Trust me, so would I, but if we're looking to apportion blame it's kinda hard to pin it on our former coach. The players (including Tmac) didn't make the shots and didn't get the rebounds. Our GM provided us with the trash that surrounds Tracy, Battier excepted. If anyone ever brings up Yao as a CD success in terms of acquisition, I will slap them down hard.
Well considering that: (1) They only have the 26th pick in the upcoming draft (2) They are at the salary cap and Fearless Leader aka Les Alexander won't venture into luxury tax land to bid for the top free agents. (3) They only have the LLE & MLE to offer potential free agents. I would say that the odds of Adelman getting all of this "new talent" appear to be quite slim. But not to worry because after reading the comments posted here, I can't see this being the problem for Adelman that it was for JVG because Adelman is a "better" coach who knows how to coach on both sides of the ball.
What is 'respectable'? Is having to rebuild not 'respectable'? JVG 'made' them respectable because they won 2 more games?
Don't forget, we have an extra 2nd round pick this year, I hear we're looking at that Novak kid from Marquette...
yup...i respected maurice taylor smoking pot all the time and being lazy, i respected cato being lazy, i respected francis caring more about football than the game, i respected the inmates running the asylum. I dont know why people are trying to argue with my point. These teams have been far more respectable than the ones we were forced to watch prior.
Sadly yes, given the circumstances. Of course, that's completely not an option. Yao is untouchable for a variety of reasons while Tmac's back problems and contract renders him virtually untradeable. Battier isn't enough to get them what they need. Alston, Head, Howard, Spanoulis, Novack, JL3? Yeah, right. It speaks volumes when your biggest asset is the contract of a guy whose playing career ended two years ago. So any move that Morey will be able to make will be a small move that in all likelihood won't be enough to dramatically address the problems at the 1,2 & 4 spots. And thus the Rockets will continue to face matchup problems with every team in the West except for San Antonio. This is the primary reason I am so unimpressed with bringing in Adelman because it fails to address the talent issue. No matter how much lipstick they put on this pig tomorrow afternoon, they can't erase the fact that the firing of JVG allows those folks really responsible for the past decade to escape the blame. At this point in time, all they have managed to do is to put a big fat Lazyboy on the bridge of the Titanic for Capt. Smith (Adelman) to relax in and enjoy the view on the way down.
HILLBOY and MADMAX I understand that JVG didn't have the greatest roster last year. However, what does that have to do with JVG only having 4 plays in his playbook?
sura, waivable for 1m. lucas, waivable for 500k. they can be packaged for a player up to 5.7m. so that's like having another mle on hand.
Actually - it doesn't matter the JVG got fired and Adelman is being brought in. There's pretty much no opporutnities to improve our team. So what difference does it make? We're still not going to be a contender next year. We're doomed to be a good team that never goes anywhere. We're good enough to get the 4th - 6th seed, which means we will never get a great draft pick, and never be able to sign a big name free agent to get over the hump. We're stuck with high picks in the draft and signing journeymen to plug big holes in the dam with spackle.
That's another fallacy that's been expounded around here. Look, JVG was under the gun to produce WINS particularly in light of what had occurred in the previous year when both Yao & Tmac went down. To assert what you have done is simply being silly. Maybe if you weren't so keen on blaming JVG for everything, you'll notice that there simply weren't that many good or great offensive players on the roster to run all of those "offensive" plays. You'll also notice that the offense that JVG ran - the one designed to depend on two "star" players surrounded by jumpshooters for the bulk of its offensive production - was what they (Rockets) wanted after they made the big trade. SO as I see it, JVG gave CD & Les and the rest of the stooges in the front office exactly what they wanted, won 52 games last year and still got fired. For his sake, I hope Adelman is paying attention to how this all went down because next time it'll be his turn...
Of course I could be wrong....I'd go so far as to say, yes, I'm wrong. But TMac is far from untradeable. If Boston wanted to offer Theo Ratliff's expiring contract, Gerald Green and the #6 pick in the draft (which might yield Conley Jr), as a way of pairing TMac with his old coach and put TMac and Paul Pierce together with Al Jefferson and Wally Sz, and we might even be able to flip Ratliff and Sura's expiring contracts with some of our other players for somebody we need at PF, would you at least TAKE THE CALL? Might as well slide backward for a year or so. We could be fighting it out against Portland in the WC Finals for years. I mean, it COULD happen. Right? (crickets chirping) Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
IT'S OFFICIAL, just got it from the AP. APNewsAlert,0011<P> HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets have hired Rick Adelman as coach.
