Isn't Joe Johnson a free agent after this season?

If we want Joe Johnson, we are either going to have to give up re-signing Ron (which isn't going to happen unless Ron doesn't want to re-sign after this year) or trade for him.

Honestly, if the Hawks don't do anything in terms of the playoffs this season, I wouldn't be surprised to see a sign and trade between the Rockets and Hawks that includes Tracy for Joe Johnson... Especially if Joe doesn't want to be there.

I think Rons situation here is better for him anyways. He can be the Man next to Yao. I'm sure he'll stay.

"It's great playing with a leader that wants it (as opposed to a leader that slacks off)."

I did not know that Yao and Artest have a lot of respect for each other. I can certain understand why they would, but I did not hear anything about this until yesterday (during the game I think Bill Worrell mentioned that Yao really likes playing with Artest because of how hard he plays) and now with article Artest says how much he likes playing with Yao.

I would've been shocked if the article read "Rockets have no intentions of re-signing Artest". What else is Morey supposed to say? :D I mean, maybe he really does want him back, but does anyone expect him to say anything other than what he did?

Artest is more of a 3. We are actually short on quality SGs right now. Imagine a team of:

    PG: Lowry/Brooks
    SG: Joe Johnson/Wafer or Barry
    SF: Artest/Battier
    PF: Scolandry
    C: Yao/(cheap and/or rookie backup C)

Very very stacked team... to make room for contracts we might have to move Battier, even if he is a 'defensive intangibles' man - but with this lineup and RA as coach an offensive focus will be better for the team (plus, we still have Artest). Then Wafer or a cheap FA can move to the backup 3 spot.

I'm not sure if he expires this upcoming offseason...either way if we trade him for Tmac like that it'd be just fine...

We just need to replace Tmac with a good young SG like Joe Johnson. Wade would be a dream come true and I think he'd come here if he thought he could win multiple championships. The only way I see him resigning with the Heat is if Beasley has a big season next year, otherwise he's probably going to go to a better team with a max deal. I think looking at it right now...2010 we will have the best team able to offer a max deal. So i'm kinda glad we didn't trade Tmac now, just let him expire and he may help us next season if he's actually working hard to come back.

Wade and Yao...and Artest...that is a franchise right there.

I agree. I love how much Morey makes himself available to the media, but at the same time, there's a lot of posturing going on as well. You have to take what he says with a grain of salt.

Nevermind, Joe Johnson is done after next season. My mistake. It was Mike Bibby that was done after this year.

If they do resign him, how would they then approach 2010?

Do they make a decision on McGrady this offseason? It would probably be wise to

I'm inclined to believe it, but this could also be lip service. And technically, the organization is free to change their minds when the season is over. A lot can happen until then. I'm just sayin'...

    Ben Gordon
    Szcerbiak
    Iverson
    Von Wafer
    Ariza
    Marion
    Kyle Korver

All the players i'd consider signing. I'd be cool with Von Wafer just resigning though and letting Tmac's contract expire to go after one of these guys in 2010 though.

    Joe Johnson
    Dwade

lol that's it. Looking at the 2010 class there are not that many good SGs out there. 09 class has more but Joe Johnson and Wade are better than all those players.

I'm wondering if we'll be able to resign Wafer. I think he could go to a bad team in order to get minutes and play a larger role.

The words Artest, Contract, and Guaranteed should never go together in the same sentence. Still, he's done everything ask of him, and been the difference between a lottery team and dark horse team, so I can see why the Rockets would want to keep him.

Would they swindle Kevin Martin and Kenny Thomas' expiring for TMac's expiring? I'd like that deal

Kmart's defense is questionable and he doesn't create for others.
