Someone finally said it..We Have Two Allstars and two of the Top 10 players in the league in Yao and T-Mac. thats 50 pointsa a game so just give us 35 more and with JVG defense we can win. Everyone including myself is so worried about who we are going to get yet we have pretty good team. Its all about being healthy... :)

And even without making additional moves, Juwan Howard, Rafer Alston and Shane Battier are all good for around 10 per game. :D

Maybe you guys can set me straight on this but I thought V-Span still had a sizeable buyout attached to him. He's already making decent money there and he's under contract for at least another year. I didn't think we had much of a shot at him unless we really wanted to spend some serious coin to get him out of Europe....

Channel 2 said they were working on a buyout and would talk to him during the World Championships in Japan.

Considering that V-Span isn't a starter and Maccabi could only offer a 1.5mil/yr deal against the Pacers 5m/yr for Jasikevicius to stay in Europe. I highly doubt the Rockets would need to use more than half the MLE on him.

If the dude isn't a starter, the 6th, or even the 7th man, who cares.

This is going to be nice. Im glad he decided to sign with the houston rockets who were the ones to give him a chance in the nba. And i think that he will be able to carry on what he did in the summer league into the NBA season. Ecept off the bench maybe 3rd string. Maybe he can get those assists and just get the energy coming off the bench and also he is better than mooch. He can also hit the open jumper i believe.

I agree. The man rips up a summer league and some hail him as the next great thing. He'll STILL be a benchwarmer because there is no way he sees time over Alston or Sura (if healthy). And if he does end up getting significant minutes, then that is not a good forecast for our season.

He's quick, young and can play, but he's about 2-3 years away from being a steady contributor on a contender.

Yeah no1 is saying that he is gonna get much minutes over SUra and alston. But he will be playing a good 3 string point guard. he can bring instant offense and energy and hes good to have to a team. He will help rockets by hitting open jumpers and coming off the bench with much energy. Young quick . He will make Great affect to this league later on in his career wheter he be a rocket or on another team.

Vspan is more of a SG than a PG for his height. I dont know how good of a shooter he is but CD mentioned that he reminds him more of Ginobli, as Ginobli is a SG. Rox need help at SG position off the bench as Snyder n Head are still below average players and most likely would like to try out Vpan out.

seeing as how he is our draft pick
why do we use any of it on him
Should it just be like signing a draft pick

I’m kind of curious as to that myself. If anyone has any clarification on the guidelines as to when a draft pick requires either cap space or an exception to join the team, do fill us in.

This backcourt situation is starting to sound a bit crowded, especially if Sura returns from the dead. I was presuming we would sign either Lucas or V-Span, not both.

Alston, Head, Spanoulis, Lucas, Snyder and perhaps even McGrady (if he plays the 2) or Sura? You’d have to figure that at least one of those guys won’t make it off the bench for any significant amount of playing time, and I’m going to go out on a limb and say it won’t be T-Mac, presuming he’s physically able.

    At least we’ll have options.

there might be other stipulations, but spanoulis was a 2nd round pick, meaning he has no guaranteed contract which means the team just has to come to terms with him. usually that's chump change but in the case of trying to bring a foreigner over, you mght get cases like this where you have to go over the minimum salary and so all you have left is your MLE (or i guess veteran's exception).

With 1st round picks, each player has his rookie scale salary pretty much set by the rules.. teams has to pay according to the scale. Also these picks come with their own salary cap exceptions... so you use the "1st round pick exception" to sign therese guys.

With 2nd rounders, you don't have a separate exceptions or the rookie scale on them... so you have to use a separate exception to pay them if you are over the cap.. usally teams used the "minimum salary exception" (teams have an unlimited number of these... you can bascially sign as many minimum salary player as you have roster spots for) since 2nd rounders usually are more than happy to be making a minimum NBA salary (about 450K for year 1, 750K for year 2).

However, for guys like Spanoulis, Scola, etc.. who were drafted in the 2nd round, but since went on to make decent careers for themselves in Europe and pulling in maybe 1 mil, 1.5 mil, 2 mil a year over there, accepted the minimum wage in the NBA doesn't make that much financial sense... so the teams have to at least pay them more than their current salary before they consider moving to the NBA. In order to do that, they'll have to dip into their other salary exceptions (the MLE, the Bi-annual, etc).

    True. Great point.

I'm assuming we'll have to spend whatever amount to buy him outta his contract in Europe.
