heh, looks like mutombo will retire next year and be a coach for yao. jk, that'd break all of yall's i want hakeem as asst coach fans.
Do ne of you all remember that old post with a pic of ewing on the bench and a pic of a gorilla with a similar expression on the face. That was hilarious
i don't think there is any need for a big man coach. our bigs are all vets. no one is developing anymore, besides hayes who can learn alot from deke and Jho. ward can be the guard coach for rafer, vspan and lucas, snyder, and head. all young players.
I never really understood the idea of having Ewing teach Yao, its not like Yao ever learned how to travel almost every play and not get called for it
It's official: if its on the bottom line of ESPN News, then it must be true; although the credit for the report is also noted that KRIV-FOX made the report. What I'd like to know is why he is leaving. I think if Olajuwan becomes the big-man coach, he will help Yao rediscover the moves he had before VG took over. I still hear the announcers, namely Bill Walton exclaiming how he has the moves like Olajuwon. I beleive JVG shackled that dream shake manuever after he began coaching. If you can recall the time Yao did a head fake from under the basket, step back left and head fake, then step jump right and reverse layup against the Pacers/O'Neal. Reminisent of Olajuwon vrs. Spurs/Robinson Game 2 WCF 1995. Since they are somewhat similar in choice of offense, then maybe Olajuwon whose skills are advanced and still helping others like Omeka Okafor just last year and holds annual big man camps in Houston. Imagine a season long tutor that was Yao's idol when he was young? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk0MPyiJBbc
Oh....nooooo........ Alexander will save money and has Charlie Ward as Yao new coach. Yao's new role will be Center pg.
Ewing's resigning? Where do I sign up for his job? I don't have any experience coaching basketball, but I am sure that I can do just as well staring at the cheerleaders. And it is unclear how much coaching basketball Ewing did anyway.
if we can't get Hakeem, we can always hire Ralph.
ESPN Report: Ewing resigns as Rockets' assistant coach ESPN.com news services After three years working with Jeff Van Gundy on the sidelines in Houston, Patrick Ewing has resigned as assistant coach of the Rockets, KRIV in Houston reported on its Web site. Ewing is leaving the team to spend more time with his family, the station reported, citing sources close to the team. The sources also said that the organization does not intend to replace Ewing, which would mean an increased role for assistant coach Charlie Ward, a former teammate of Ewing. Ewing, Van Gundy and Rockets' GM Carroll Dawson were all unavailable for comment. An 11-time All-Star, Ewing was the face of the Knicks' franchise during the 1990s when New York shared heated rivalries with Chicago, Indiana and Miami. The Knicks reached the NBA Finals twice during Ewing's tenure, in '94 and '99, losing both times. Among the 7-foot center's other accolades are two Olympic gold medals (1984 and 1992), an NCAA Championship (1984) and being named one of the NBA's 50 greatest players.
